Vehicle Detail
I have done most of this restoration myself and therefore can answer most questions anyone might have. The total mileage is unknown but I would estimate it at 70K. The odometer reads since engine overhaul. The car drives great and was the first year of the super beetle and McPherson struts which improved the handling. Almost every component has been replaced, overhauled or repaired with the exception of the transmission which works perfectly. I had decided not to disassemble the transmission if not needed. Detail was given to all items such as the fresh air system which is seldom still installed and almost always not operational. I restored the car with originality to the era in which it was built in mind. A good example of this is the red embroidery and piping accents on the seats. Notice the original air filter housing on the engine and painted to match. This car would have been the nicest VW at my High School and I would have been proud to own it then as I am proud of it now. The reason I am selling it is I have not room for it in my garage with all my other cars and will not keep it outside. I choose not to store it away from the house and would rather someone else enjoy it. If you ever desired to own an original VW Bug this might be a good opportunity and a much less expensive way to do it. The parts alone would be more than the by it now price! The following items are some that come to mind that have been done to the car throughout the restoration. 1. Engine overhaul (better then new) 2. New carburetor 3. New steering box 4. New struts 5. New Shocks 6. New radial tires 7. New brake master cylinder (stops great) 8. VW chrome wheels 9. Rebuilt speedometer w/new cable 10. New fuel gauge and sender 11. New fuel tank 12. New Insulation throughout car 13. New stereo w/Bluetooth 14. New turn signals and brake lights front and back 15. All new paint inside and out. 16. New upholstery on all seats 17. New door and side panel upholstery 18. New headliner 19. Wood accents to Glove box and shifter 20. New steering wheel assembly (not correct for year but very cool!) 21. New upholstery in trunk 22. Custom woven floor mats to match 23. Rebuilt fresh air box motor and controls
