Vehicle Detail
Single, White, ATC, looking for a home. 3-wheeler aficionados, collectors, and fanatics: The time has come to sell my treasured 30 year old 1987 Honda 200X! After learning and burning on my Honda 200S, my parents graciously agreed to upgrade my trike to the one thing I wanted as a 16 year old-THE 1987 Honda 200X. Nothing is more thrilling than riding this beauty; with its 200cc high performance engine, adjustable front and rear shocks, and 6 speeds of pure adrenaline. If you know 3-wheelers, you know the awe of this one bike, so I will spare you the pitch on its rarity. Most have only seen this bike in DirtWheels magazine as they fantasized about someday going knob to knob against Curtis Sparks and Mickey Dunlap. Then, one day, you heard the news that our beloved 3-wheelers were not going to be sold anymore. The outrage! All that time you saved and saved for that 1987 200X only to be told you can only buy a 4-wheeler now. Your racing dreams were crushed, you had no car, and you already bought all your racing apparel. All you had left was that awesome 1987 Honda 200X brochure perfectly tacked next to your AC/DC poster. Well, brethren of the 200X, rejoice, YOUR time has come to end your mid-life crisis and relive your youthful dreams! My cherished 200X has been faithfully covered in my dad's garage for 30 years. Since 2014, I carefully unwrapped her, cleaned the varnish from the carb, adjusted the valves and timing, changed the oil and spark plug, added fresh fuel, and changed the air filter (the original crumbled in my hand). I decided to try to kickstart her into life. If there is such a thing as trike fever, this was it. My heart was pumping, I was anxious, wet palms, and felt this moment had to be respected. I told the kids to hurry and get the camera, this was a life moment; we needed to preserve this. Camera On-check, key turned On-check, Switch turned On-check, fuel knob to RES-check. I was methodical, compulsive; everything had to be checked and rechecked before I pumped the kick-start. Delirious I was. I gave her the first crank-nothing, second-nothing, third-VROOOM, she welcomed me back. So why sell it now? I simply have no more need for it and it is time for someone else to enjoy it and create some memories. I recently replaced the gaskets on the carb (the main gasket had a slight leak) and just kept her parked. Take a close look at the pictures (keep a tissue nearby for tears and drool) and you will see that everything on her is original, except the left hand clutch lever and air filter. She has a lot of character becoming of her age: her rear tires are original with beautiful dimples still in the tread. Her boots have a tear but still looks like a thoroughbred. She has some light scratching on the decals and plastic, but if you can overcome the cosmetic blemishes, and hear the perfect 200cc’s of inner beauty, you’ll fall for her. I also have the title and owner's manual. Over a fine cigar and great whiskey, the “X” and I sat together and mulled about parting ways, it was time. The perfect owner will be someone who respects this vintage trike with the essentials: shelter, good fuel and oil, and good hygiene. May you enjoy this one of a kind 3 wheeler, and may it bring you back to a time when 3-wheelers ruled the track. So dust off your 1980s racing boots and squeeze into that racing jersey; get ready for one awesome 3 wheeler. Ride on!
