For sale: 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible, dry western car from the high desert of Montana, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. I purchased the car from a local older gentleman in his 80s. It has been stored inside for the last 30 years, and used on sunny summer days. It's a nice cruiser, a classic convertible for the price of a plain vanilla Mustang coupe. Great car for weekend shows/cruise nights or just taking the wife to the Steak & Shake. I'll do my best to describe it below: Exterior: Nice driver condition, presents well. One repaint in the original Wimbledon white, not Pebble Beach concours quality, but shines well and no major flaws. A few chips and scratches from use. No body rust I can find on or underneath the car, and I know where to look. This is arid country with about 10 inches total moisture per year, and sand, not salt, is used on the roads. There are pics in the linked Photobucket album of all the usual rust-prone spots on these cars, and other than a small spot on the rear bumper, I can find no evidence of corrosion. I even pulled up original jute trunk mat for pics to show solid trunk floor. Original top is in good condition with no tears or holes, back window is cloudy though. Trim is in good shape with no major pitting, one headlight bezel is dented and back bumper could use a rechrome - it is scratched and has a rust spot at the bottom edge. Glass is good. Overall good looking car that draws a lot of compliments. Interior: All original in good condition with no major issues, thanks to long term inside storage. Driver seat has a few small cracks as shown in the backrest. Original carpet, door panels, etc all in good shape. Dash is surprisingly good with only a few small cracks. Nice overall survivor.Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well with original numbers and date code correct 289, and cruisomatic trans with no noticeable leaks or smoke or noises. When I got the car I took it to a professional mechanic and had a service and inspection performed. The car has ALL new brakes including master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes and drums turned. Also did a full transmission service. Tires look great with plenty of tread and no cracks. Original mufflers need to be replaced. Does need carb tuning, it's cold blooded off idle, but it's ready to drive and enjoy. Pricing/Misc: Hagerty books the average value of this car at $24,400. I got a good deal on the car, and I set the reserve accordingly at under $9000, less than the price of a plain vanilla Mustang coupe.
