Vehicle Detail
1965 Volkswagen Bug – VIN 115044114 Steel Sunroof, Original San Diego CA car, purchased from original owner. This ’65 was purchased 3 years ago from the original owner. As the then 37-year-old daughter told the story, this was the first car her father bought after he came to the US from Mexico. Her and her two sisters were each taken home from the hospital in the car, learned to drive in the car and essentially grew up with the car. When I took possession there was the shift pattern written in black magic marker on the dash. The father wrote it there so his daughters would always know what gear to place it in since the original shift knob had faded long before. While the car was a little banged up and had a blue velvet upholstery, it had all the original parts still intact. The car has been restored in Bahama Blue and all sheet metal is original and was hand pounded back to shape. The floorboards, doors and trunk all have a quality sound deadener installed that give this car a clunk instead of a rattle when it drives. All parts installed were German or quality parts from top name vendors. Brazilian or Chinese parts were not used on this classic. Over $15,000 has been invested. Engine and transmission were rebuilt by 35 year VW mechanic to his strict standards. Work on car was performed at Manny’s Repair Shoppe in Chula Vista. Here is a list of most of what I can remember was completed on the car. • 1200cc engine was completely removed, rebuilt and installed with all new trim, screws, gaskets and mounts. A new alternator, carburetor, distributor, coil and exhaust were also installed. • Transmission was completely removed, rebuilt as well as transaxles with new mounts, bushings and shifter • OEM German drums with all new brake shoes, lines, master cylinder, wheel bearings and wheel cylinders all around. • All new suspension including bushings, shocks and rebuilt steering gear box • All new wiring harness, switches, lighting fixtures, bulbs, including H4 headlights and trim • Interior is all OEM Volkswagen including rubber mats and carpet. A Retro-radio with Retro-3-way single speaker is also installed. • All new interior trim pieces, door panels, carpet, headliner and switches • Steel sunroof mechanical parts were all rebuilt or replaced with new parts and opens and closes perfectly • All new window rubber, door weather-stripping, glass as well as all other rubber has been replaced. • Attention to detail to keep car as close too original as possible • Most Original parts removed from car have been kept and are boxed and available to new owner • New OEM 15” steel wheels with high quality hubcaps • New BFG Silvertown Radial 2.5” Wide White Wall tires • New Gas Tank, new windshield wiper tank and brake fluid tank • New front and rear chrome bumper with new mounting hardware • I am sure there is more that I am forgetting Car is available to see with an appointment and if you email me through eBay I will get back to you quickly. Title is in my name, registration is current in California. I have described this car to the best of my understanding and no warranties have been implied or expressed. Car is for sale in AS-IS condition and I will do my best to be available to assist with your transportation company. I have had many of questions asking why I am selling so I thought I would add to the listing. My daughter and I used to play "slug bug" everyday to and from the ride to her school. When she was 13 she asked if she could have a Bug as her first car. It was my first car too so I thought; why not. I started my search and found the bug from the original owner. I knew that it wouldn't make sense for her to be driving around this little car in a world filled with big SUV's and people texting and driving but we had fun collaborating on it and there was a great deal of enthusiasm as we picked out the parts, colors, interior etc. As she approached 16 and needed a car to learn to drive in she began using my Jeep and liked sitting higher; as much as she would miss seeing the bug in the garage; she knew it wasn't a practical car. This car had a great deal of love put into in and attracts a great deal of attention and gets many people thinking about the good ole days!
