Vehicle Detail
My wife and I have enjoyed our Crown Victoria primarily as our extra vehicle for getting around town during the past 5 years. We purchased it from an auction at a small municipality in Delaware back in 2011. It was previously a police detective's vehicle. We were told by their mechanic that the car did not spend a bunch of time idling, was not driven hard, and was meticulously maintained with replacement oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter etc. on a regular basis. Likewise, my wife and I had the oil and filter changed every 3,000 - 5,000 miles with 'fully synthetic' oil. We also just replaced the air filter. The car runs and drives beautifully. We anticipate that you can benefit from the care we took of our car, and that you will receive nice value out of it. We were initially attracted to this car because it has very comfortable plush cloth seats. They are not the hard, rubbermat-like cloth seats that you will find on other police crown victorias. We imagine the seats will be one of the highlights for you. Our trips with this car were mainly between small towns where we live in South Jersey. We took care to drive it cautiously although it certainly has big power if that is what you're interested in. For a short period we also brought it to nearby Philadelphia. A small fraction of our total trips were ever longer than 25 minute drives. We only put about 30,000 miles on it over the course of 5 years. We have been fortunate enough to never have any serious problems with our car, and we hope that you will be able to enjoy the same result for many years. Below, we will give you a little more detail on the car should you be interested in the extra things we upgraded on the car (on the positive side), as well as the things you may possibly be concerned about. We think it is difficult to set and meet expectations with vehicles that are not brand new, so we'll do our best to help you make an informed decision. On the positive side, we installed a CD player into the dash which has a USB port for charging, and an audio jack. The head unit did not quite fit flush with the rest of the dash. It doesn't bother us that it sticks out a little bit, but please notice this in the photo of it so you can see if it will bother you. It works perfectly and we are very satisfied with it. The best part is that it also has Bluetooth enabled for wireless calls. When connecting to it, the password is 0000. You will also see the location on the upper left of the inside of the vehicle where we had the microphone set so that your voice can be heard easily on calls. Its very convenient and is one of our favorite features of the car. We also had the rear windows and rear windshield completely tinted dark. It was done professionally and it makes the car look very sharp. We love that it keeps us cooler during the summer and we also feel better about leaving any valuables in the back seat where they can't easily be seen. There is a neat little button that turns on blue light from the dome light which looks great at night in the interior of the vehicle. We never used it but if you're interested in this let us know and we will tell you where the button is. Finally, we upgraded the speaker system with all new speakers, a subwoofer, and amplifier (the subwoofer and amplifier are in the trunk, you will see in one of the photos). We did this 5 years ago and it was a great investment. For the not so great part about our car, we were never thrilled with its gas mileage. We checked it a couple years back at around 18mpg in 'city' driving. If you plan to use for long drives it is certainly comfortable, but the big engine leaves much to be desired in terms of gas mileage. The car is very powerful though, and you will notice this especially when passing other vehicles and accelerating from 50mph to 60mph for example. The paint job also is less than brilliant. There is a large fading spot on the driver side front fender which you will see in a photo. There are two small rust spots - one about the width of a quarter and the other is on the hood and is about the size of a penny. There are a few small dents and some hairline scratches that I tried to capture in the photos as well. Nothing is terrible or eye-popping in our opinion, and we think the body/paint should probably be considered as 'fair' condition considering the age of the vehicle. There are some small stains on the carpet of the car that are rust color which were there from the policeman who used it before us, but once again it is nothing big. We also don't have the front floor mats. And the air condition has never worked, we usually just roll the windows down in the summer. The insides of the doors have a few light markings on them which can probably be scrubbed off. The rear dash has a black tray which you can see in one of the photos which was used for the police lights. The lights are not in the tray anymore and if you want to remove it we are fairly certain you simply have to take out a few screws. We have never had the check engine light come on, any problems with the car overheating or anything like that. Once, the "overdrive off" light flashed during the last 20 minutes of a 2 hour drive. However, it turned itself off by the next ride and never flashed again. Our mechanic friend said that sometimes a "sensor just needs to be cleaned" when that happens. We imagine its not an issue since the light is off, but we wanted to mention this in full disclosure. There are two "trunk release" buttons inside the vehicle but only one of them works. Not really an issue, you can reach them both from the driver seat. We actually prefer the location of the working button anyway. Lastly, there is a small 'dot' crack in the windshield which isn't noticeable until you walk up closely. Its been there for years, we never notice it when driving, and we doubt it will be an issue for you. It is low on the windshield and not in the main view while driving so it has not bothered us. The car is inspected through October 2017. The seats are in very good condition with no tears and no stains, at most some light signs of use. We did our best to always keep the car clean on the inside, and always had the oil changed regularly. We think we've been lucky with our crown vic and we hope it treats you well also. We kindly not that you will be responsible for arranging pickup or shipment of the vehicle. Best of luck and feel free to contact us if you have any other specific questions.
