Vehicle Detail
I decided to put my 1970 Challenger project car up for sale. This is a very solid New Mexico car. The frame rails, cowl, rockers, firewall, floor pans etc.. are rock solid. Perfect for a resto mod,pro touring or R/T tribute car. Any rust you see under the car is light surface scale that can practically be wiped off with your fingers. No thick scale rust that would cause pitting. Here is the history of the car after I purchased it. The car was delivered to me 11/11/11. It is a G code 318 car. It is a Green exterior with green interior and it is an original vinyl top car. It's an original A/C car with 26" radiator core support. It's got the heavy duty 11" drum brakes on all four corners. I took the entire body down to bare metal to expose any flaws. The original quarters,fenders,rockers,etc.. are so rock solid that I didn't find even a single pinhole in the sheet metal. However, this was a vinyl top car and the original roof skin was in pretty poor condition. I replaced it with a new AMD unit. I also replaced the trunk filler panel along with the trunk pan,all with AMD pieces. The trunk drops and wheelhouses were in excellent condition,so I didn't have to touch those at all. At some point in time and for whatever reason, someone cut the original driver's side quarter panel off and lap welded a 1972-74 one in it's place. I didn't care for the quality of the work,so I replaced it with a new full quarter AMD piece. Someone also sandblasted the driver's side fender and it was full of bondo,so I replaced it with a new AMD fender. I also added a new AMD rear valance with the exhaust tip cutouts. I acquired a nice clean original rallye hood for it as well and that was also taken down to bare metal to look for flaws. It has a nice grille and the tail lights and bezels are very decent for 46 year old pieces. There is some veining in the chrome. The front and rear bumper brackets are original OEM pieces that have been blasted and primed. The bumpers are nice, straight cores for rechrome. The car has never been in an accident. The frame rails are straight with no ripples or any sign of collision. The hood, doors, and trunk lid are rock solid and the pinch welds are mint.Decklid has the factory provisions if you wish to add a go-wing spoiler. I have a bunch of parts that come with the car like a rebuilt set of hood hinges, stainless window trim, inner and outer window mouldings, gas tank filler necks, extra grille parts,a nice set of black rear arm rest panels, kick panels, new wheelwell mouldings, flip top gas cap, sunvisors,etc,etc... The car has a clean title in my name. The fender tag, dash and door vin tags are all present. The car came with no motor or transmission and I do not have one to include. It also comes with an 8 1/4" rear axle. All of the hard work is done. All of the welding was professionally done and metal finished with the exception of the driver's side door jamb, which needs to have final alignment done before finish welding.Other than that, the car is ready for the final bodywork and block sanding phase and then onto paint. There is absolutely no bondo on the car anywhere. Please email me for a link to over 100 pictures. I have highly detailed shots of the entire car, including shots of the car in bare metal as well as shots of the underside and floorpans. Also have pics of the Vin and fender tag, door sticker, cowl and core support vins. The buckets seats, rear seat, steering column, steering wheel, and wheels and tires in the pictures are for display. They do not come with the car. I have a set of steel wheels that the car will be sold with. Other than that, the car is being sold as you see it. Independent inspections are welcome. Why am I selling it so close to completion? Too many projects and not enough money or time to finish them all. It's time to thin the herd. I want to be as honest and forthright as I can for any potential buyers,so there are no surprises when the car is delivered to them.I wire wheeled the floor pans down to show how really solid they are. You will be hard pressed to find a more solid starting point project car for the money.I take a lot of pride in my work. The sheetmetal replacement was done right and not cobbled together with hidden rust issues, like some of the nightmares I've seen listed for sale recently. The car is a blank canvas to add any engine and transmission combination you desire, without any thought for originality. I've added more pictures to show more of the floor pans, the underside and the car in bare metal. Feel free to give me a call with any questions you have. Since I did all of the work and have been over everything with a fine tooth comb,I can answer any and all questions you have about the car. You can reach me at 1-414-671-3364 Thanks,Dave
