The B2K option was available as a factory option through certain qualified Chevrolet dealerships. The price for this option was $19,995 and it was the most expensive option available for any Corvette up to that time. In 1987 the factory shipped 188 fully assembled Corvettes to Callaway Engineering in Old Lyme, Connecticut to be modified with the installation of their twin turbo 345hp/465 lb.- ft. torque engine. They pulled the stock 350 engine and installed a new block that was line bored, honed, blueprinted, balanced, added a forged crank and Cosworth pistons. A special high output Melling oil pump plus a separate sump pump to draw oil from the turbo sumps. The stock TPI system was retained but helped with twin turbochargers and a pair of intercoolers. The injectors are controlled by second on board computer designed by Callaway that works in parallel with the GM computer. The exhaust system is another trick setup with special exhaust manifolds that go into a stock exhaust with special megaphone mufflers at the end. The 345HP rating is very conservative and some minor tweaks could boost it to 420HP. The top speed was 178 MPH! This Callaway Corvette is confirmed by Callaway as their production #111 of the 188 made in 1987. The total B2K option cars built was only 500.
