Vehicle Detail
The BF Goodrich L88/ZL1 Greenwood race car may just be the most significant and storied of all the L88s that came from General Motors in those three short years and its accomplishments in both racing and show awards are indisputable. This 1969 Corvette is listed as a ZL-1, L-88 clone as there is no documentation. Research on the internet shows only one 69 ZL1 exists with documentation. Research also shows they claim now seven 69's may have left the factory with the ZL1 engine, test cars etc..The car has all the characteristics of a ZL-1 or L-88. I added a few of the production numbers below to show how rare it is. RPO M-22 4 speed H.D. transmission close ratio. Production number of only 101 cars. GS4 Posi trac axle 370 ratio. J50/J56 Brakes, H.D. Power. Production number of only 115 cars. UA6 Alarm system. production number of only 12,436. N14 Exhaust system side mounted. Production number of only 4,355. K66 ignition system, full transistor available only with optional engine. Production number of only 5,702. TJ2 louver trim, front fender. Production number of only 11,962. F41 Special purpose front and rear/ including special spring, special shock absorber, front and rear sway bars. Production number of only 1,661. PT7 white stripe nylon tires, F70/15 2 ply. A01 Tinted glass. This rare package also included a special aluminum radiator and radiator support which this car has. Also included with sale as over the counter performance option off road Aluminum headlight bucket. Part number 3961463 (L) and 3961464 (R) Fender flares on car Part number 3958683 (L) and 3958684 (R) This car was said to have a all aluminum 427 engine that failed in the 70s and was then replaced with the next best thing available at that time which was the LS7. The current engine block suffix is XCH which would have been a over the counter GM performance catalog item LS7. Rare GM snow flake aluminum 074 L88/ZL1 heads are still on it. Appears to be correct matching number transmission as well as differential. F-41 suspension, 69 on rear shocks (see pictures). Factory side exhaust, radio delete. Lights and windshield wipers are working. There is a old photo of the car showing the flares on it long ago. Original 972 can am white with original 421 SL interior. The stars and stripes are painted on and looks incredible! There is a photo showing the drivers door jamb that still has the original paint and sticker. 32k miles, the undercarriage is unrestored and has no rust. The original #49 Greenwood car was delivered new as a factory L88 Corvette before becoming one of three “Stars & Stripes” team cars sponsored by BF Goodrich (BFG) during the 1971-1973 seasons. Numbered #49, they were initially slated for promotional use by BFG, although quickly converted to racing specification and powered by one of the last Traco-built ZL-1 motors. Driven by top road course drivers of the period, including John Greenwood, Bob Johnson, Dick Smothers and Don Yenko, its initial major win was a first place in the GT class in 1972 at the Watkins Glen six-hour race. In 1973, the #49 “Stars & Stripes” BFG team car raced in the trifecta of FIA events: the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it set the GT speed record of 215 mph on the Mulsanne straight in qualifying. This Greenwood L-88/Zl-1 Clone is a beautiful example that will command attention driven on the street or having a blast at Sebring. Engine sounds amazing! Click link below to see Video.. If you are serious about the car and require more photos, please e mail me and let me know what you would like to see. Thank you!https://youtu.be/T6qom22aZOY On Jan-23-16 at 21:18:35 PST, seller added the following information: Quick update!! Although this car is being listed as a clone to start with, there are still people asking if this was a real number 49 car!!?? For sure a clone of the 49 car! Is it a real L88 zL1?
