The C5 Z06 uses a high-output, tuned LS6 engine which produces 405 hp. The Z06 is a much lighter version of the C5. The Z06 curb weight totaled 3,118lbs. Numerous modifications were engineered for the Z06 to best use the increased power. Starting with the most structurally rigid body style, the hardtop fixed roof coupe (FRC), remarkable components include: uprated FE4 suspension, speedline wheels and lighter weight F1 Supercar tires, revised gearing ratios and functional brake cooling ducts. The Z06 is lighter than a standard C5 hardtop thanks to weight-saving measures such as a titanium exhaust, thinner glass, lighter wheels, non-EMT tires, reduced sound proofing, fixed rear radio aerial and a lighter battery. Some of the high performance LS6 engine features include, stiffer valve springs, lighter sodium filled valves and more aggressive camshaft lift and timing.
