Vehicle Detail

1988 Chevrolet Camaro Z2846,400 original documented miles$13,000 receipts last 12 months Here is the one you've been waiting for. Yes, an original Z28 Iroc T-top. Yes, the miles are original and verified. If you have been looking for a near-original super clean, very reliable Z28 that you can drive every day- this is the one. Very well restored, properly documented. No corners cut. The car had 2 or 3 prior owners (see below). The original owner in East Texas sold it to the person who restored it, then I purchased it from them. However they never transferred title, so on paper this is going to show as a one-owner car. Technically speaking, when it transfers to your name you will be the second owner. But Carfax shows 4. I guess back in the day, Carfax couldn't really keep up with it so it shows less owners than really had it. Car had a blown motor in 2001, and was parked thereafter. In 2014 the restoration began. I have a file folder 2" thick of receipts. It has a brand new 350 crate motor in it. So it sat for a very long time in a garage. Let's go over it: So, first and foremost I will tell you that I believe in telling the whole story, and letting the buyer decide what's important. Accordingly you're going to get a lot of honesty and maybe too much information- you can filter it out as you would like. I value my time and I respect your time- it's honestly just a lot easier to lay it out all on the table. Motor. This has a 350 crate motor in it. No, it is not numbers matching. Everything else on it, as far as running gear goes is all original -- TPI functions exactly as it should. The motor itself has less than 2000 miles on it from when it was replaced. Starts immediately. No issues whatsoever. No internal engine work, it's just a bone stock run-of-the-mill 350. Transmission. Rebuilt @ 43K miles. Zero slippage. Shifts crisp through all the gears. This is the original transmission in the car. Nice and smooth from Park to Drive. No clunking going on. Under hard acceleration the car shifts great. No loose motor mounts. Solid transmission smooth and crisp. Suspension: All new suspension including bushings front and rear. There are no rattles or squeaks. The only issue? Sometimes under hard braking it will pull very slightly to the right. That could either be a caliper or it could be something else. I'm not sure, but it doesn't effect the way the car drives much at all. Very tight suspension all around. Definitely drives like a much newer car. On the firm side, for sure. Body: Complete repaint, professionally sprayed in 2015. Paint is original white, with a heavier clear coat. The paint is shiny and smooth all the way around. Proper OEM graphics. All of the bodyparts were removed when it was painted, so it was even painted under the side skirts, spoiler, front air dam, louvers, T-tops etc... No overspray under the hood. No issues. No dents. No scratches. Very babied paint. There are no cracks anywhere in the body parts, no spider cracks. No broken plastic. No stories. The louvers are all original. All of the trim is perfect. The window trim on the driver and passenger door needs to be replaced; It's just dry rotted. Absolutely nothing else wrong with the body, trim or rubber. Invoices for paint alone are $4300. Interior: Wow. This interior is one of the nicest I've ever seen. Generally on this generation Camaro, the black plastic pieces are falling apart. Not this one. There's VERY minimal wear on this interior. All original. No broken pieces. The dashboard looks brand-spanking new- absolutely no warping or cracks. Very, very hard to find in this kind of shape. The steering wheel is aftermarket. It has a big ass booming system that will go perfect with your mullet. The rubber trim on the T-tops is like new. There isn't a single stain anywhere. The carpet is clean and fresh and not matted down. The seat upholstery is 100% original with only minimal bunching up. There are no rips or tears. The windshield has a small spider web crack (about the size of a dime) all of the interior vinyl and plastic is bright and shiny with no discoloration. Electrical. HID headlights, brand new alternator and battery. Wired correctly, no janky harnesses or crappy installs. The stereo is professionally installed and really, really loud.. Bluetooth is wired correctly and wires hidden. Stereo sounds awesome, but really most of the time you won't be listening to it. ZERO electrical glitches. Car charges great. Starts every time. Steering. VERY tight. Under hard braking the car will pull to the right a little. The steering wheel needs a new bushing. Doesn't really bother me, but if you're going to drive it every day would probably be a good idea. Tires: Brand new 20" tires 275 on the rear 245 on the front. They have less than 500 miles on the wheels and tires. I have only done about 50 burnouts on them, so they should last another 30-40 minutes or so. :-) Drivetrain. Tight. No issues. Has upgraded driveshaft and U-joints. Driving. This car is a dream to drive. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. Starts up. Idles perfect under any condition. Runs great when it's hot. Runs great when it's cold. Never misses a beat. T-tops open and the car is a helluva lot of fun on the open road. Sounds great. All original exhaust, no leaks or noises. The car is just a riot to drive. I get more attention in this car than my brand new cars. But again, I have a mullet ballcap so I fit the part. If you don't like attention don't buy this car. Just saying. Highway cruising, absolutely rock solid. It's planted even at 100... Noises/Weirdness. The rear hatch has the "Camaro chirp" that won't go away. I can show you how to stop it temporarily but it always comes back. The alarm system sometimes needs to be reset, probably about once every couple of weeks you need to disconnect the battery. The gas gauge works about 50% of the time. Tachometer reads double the actual engine speed. Not sure what is going on there. The brake light comes on every now and then, I just add some brake fluid and it goes away so I'm guessing it has a very small brake fluid leak. Nothing ever accumulated on the ground- so I assume it's very minor. Cosmetics: As stated, the car is approaching perfect on the cosmetic side. Maybe a rubber seal here and there, the interior component pieces are all correct. No, it's not a full restore because it honestly didn't need it. But when you see this car and drive it you'll understand how much work went into making it the sweet-ass ride she is today. I know restored cars. I know original cars. This is somewhere inbetween. Just a nice, daily driver. And here's something that will piss you off. Technically its' a "Classic" because it's 25 years old. Don't you feel old with your mullet? Ownership History: Very well-documented ownership history via Carfax. It looks like there have been three owners at two addresses so it hasn't changed hands a lot over the years. Technically you would be the 4th owner but as far as the title goes, just the second. Title: clean and clear Texas title is in hand, signed and all paperwork needed for transfer is included with the sale. I hope you appreciate the honesty and the full explanation of what you're looking at. I don't think there's a single thing wrong with the car. I'll put my money where my mouth is. If you come see it, and the car isn't exactly as I described- I'll buy your plane ticket home. You can fly into Austin and drive it home anywhere in the country with 100% confidence. Pricing? These cars are all over the map. People say that the Gen3 Camaros are going up in value and they may be right, I don't know- but it's still just a car. I know it's not a $20,000 car but it sure isn't a $5000 car. I know how much is invested in it, I know what it would cost even the cheapest bodyshop and mechanic to restore, and I know what it's worth to me but come at me with a cash offer. I'm by no-means in a situation where I have to sell it. It's a good car, I'm not in a hurry and I can wait. But make an offer, worst I can say is no. But don't make an offer unless you're a 100% buyer. God Bless, and drive fast you wild mullet.
