Vehicle Detail

1976 Porsche 912ENO RESERVEThanks for checking out my 1976 Porsche 912E Coupe. The 912 model started out in 1965 with the new 911, and ended in 1969. The 912E is a one year only model, brought back in 1976. These are neat cars overlooked for many years by collectors, a matter of fact all 912 cars were overlooked which makes them hard to find in today's market. From my research this is a numbers matching 912E, you can pretty much do the math, especially on a 1 year only car, it is pretty obvious, I do not have a COA on it, so do your own homework. This car was originally a very bright yellow, code 117 Light Yellow, which is basically almost a Fluorescent Yellow, it is a rare color on these cars. From all 912 models only 26 known to exist in the 912 registry so far, (which includes 062 and B6B6 from the 1965-1969 912 run), so for 1976 even more rare. The VIN under the hood, door jam, and window pillar all match the Oregon Title. Engine and transmission are all early production as well. Here are the numbers, VIN: 9126001037, Engine: 4061115, and gearbox 5061034. This car does run and drive, but it has been sitting for the last couple years, and is desperate need of a very good tune-up and carbs need to be rebuilt no doubt, before you can take it out and really drive it. It will fire right up though, it is cold blooded, the carbs pop and crackle, after it warms up a bit, you an drive it around town, and out on short outings, but it needs some work to make it an everyday driver at this point. I have driven it on short 5 mile runs, but it is not an everyday driver. It has typical oil leaks, and seepage, but these engines are very easy to work on, not like the 911, anyone with Porsche/Bug/Bus experience should be able to tackle the mechanical needs to get it back up and running again. This will make someone a very good project car. I got this from a friend who was going to upgrade it to a 911 transplant, but after he found out it was probably numbers matching and the rarity of these cars he decided against it, and put it on the back burner. I remember seeing this car around here for the last 10 years at least before he bought it. When I first laid eyes on it at the time it was the original yellow, just older paint, with some flaws here needing a good restoration, some paint checking, small dings, no rust issues that I noticed etc. Then I saw it a few years later, with some of the paint sanded off where the paint was flaking off, with some primer over those areas. That was the first time I talked to the guy about it, and he didn't want to turn it loose. Well turned out, about 3 years ago, when it was really "Kool" to paint things hot rod black, his friend convinced him to just shoot it black, something he wished in the end that he didn't do, but so be it, it is what it is. The car is very solid, and nice and straight down the sides, a very good body on this one, no signs of any accidents, inside the trunk area, under the engine cover, all the aprons are nice and clean. Please read on if you are interested in knowing more about this 912E, there are over 100 photos below as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085 CONDITION: The body is in great shape, obviously painted in primer black, but was done over 6 years ago, so overall body looks to be in good shape. When you look down the sides, it is nice and straight, door gaps all look pretty good, bonnet and engine lid have good lines. A few small bubbles under the font of the windshield corner by cowl but fairly minor, another couple bubbles on top of the fenders, see pictures. On the rest of the body no signs of any rust bubbling, or issues. The engine lid, does have some paint peeling off the back, that you can see. Inside the wheel wells and inner tubs, all look very good and rust free. The floors look good from underneath, and pulled up the mats inside and they look solid as well. The nose is in good shape inside the bonnet area, inner areas look look, no rust or damage on aprons. It does get wet under the bonnet up toward the nose when it rains out, and a little bit on the front floor boards, though when you restore and paint it, you will put new door gaskets, windows etc on it. The primer is older, and has chips, scratches, scuffs on it, and is fading some, pictures are pretty self explanatory. The glass is in good shape, no cracks, windows roll up and down. The trim, needs to be restored over all. The rear Porsche reflector section has some broken off studs, so is not attached completely, someone tried to glue it at some point and it did not work. Overall, body is in good shape, but needs a good restoration. The floor pan is in good shape, no signs of any major rust, there is a hole over on the passenger side, that looks like it got punctured with something, but not rusty. All the inner supports look good on the floors, and inner tubes etc, no signs of any major accidents that I can see. Look at the photos, and you can see pretty much what it needs. Interior is in okay shape for a driver, but will need work obviously. The door panels need to be replaced, some parts are missing obviously. The passenger door only works for the inside, the outside handle is is missing the lever to open it. Dash area is in okay shape, instruments are there, beside the Speedometer/Odometer, miles are unknown at this time, pod is missing, seems someone else wanted it at some point and took it out, so it is missing, so it needs a replacement, all the wiring behind it looks good though. When you look at the pictures of the interior it needs to be restored, small rips in seats, no headliner, in general for a driver it is okay, but you will restore it back to original when the time comes, but overall basically complete something to start with. The gauges have the typical fog up when it is running, when there is a lot of moisture in the air. I can say, the speedometer pod, needs to be covered, because when driving it the wind likes to come right in the car. The turn signals are not working currently needs a new turn signal switch. Heater blower does not turn on, might be switch or motor itself, easy to get to in the engine compartment, clock does not work, fuel gauge does not work, the fuel gauge is not in the gas tank, it needs new one. Overall interior gauges and such need looked at and sorted out. Mechanically as I mentioned before, I do not know a lot about it, never driven it for long periods of time. Until the carbs get rebuilt, the snap, crackle and pop when cold, gets a little better when it warms up but overall need rebuilt. The engine seems like it has decent power, and revs good besides when the carbs are working and not snapping, no signs of blue smoke, or burning of oil, actually runs pretty clean. You will want to do a lot of sorting out to get it back to daily driver, has lots of oil seepage, not sure where it is coming from. I don't mean to make it sound like it drips oil all over over, just a few drips ever once in a while, but it has plenty of oil residue in the engine compartment, and on gaskets etc. These engines are easy to work on, so a good sorting will be good. Also you will notice original induction system is not on the car, going back to original will be good for this car since it appears to be original engine and gearbox. The transmission seems to shift good, does not pop out of gear, no clutch chatter, shifts nice and smooth, and is a 5spd manual. The brakes work decent and stop the car nice and straight. I do notice if you push the car when it is not running, the brakes hang up a little bit and makes it hard to push, more so in reverse, obviously you don't notice this when driving. Overall mechanically it has some needs, but overall things seem to be in good repair, just getting it to run decent again, with the carbs rebuilt will be a good start then go from there.
