With only 149k miles on it, the engine is barely broken-in and has NO BLOWBY. This is a 2-owner Southern truck that has absolutely NO RUST WHATSOEVER and has been with the 2nd owner for the last 115k miles. It belonged to a local company that let one of their managers use it to travel the Southeast keeping tabs on various projects. It has clearly spent its life out on the highway as you can tell from the excellent condition of the interior upholstery plus there are no smoke or pet odors. You'll also appreciate the chrome wheels that are wrapped in a nearly new matched set of Toyo all terrain tires. This is no stripped-down work truck wither. It has the integrated brake controller. There's an AM/FM Stereo CD/MP3 player with AUX input. It even has a power sliding rear window! Under the bedliner is a turnover ball setup that has clearly seen little use. When we got it one of the headlights cracked so we replaced them both with a brand new pair of lightly smoked units that we think really set the truck out from the crowd. And now, they need to meet tough new emissions regulations too. Dodge's new Ram HD has a Cummins diesel that met the coming emissions levels three years ago. Where Ford and GM are investing cash to develop entirely new diesel engines for their all-new heavy-duty models, Dodge was able to invest that money in redesigning the outer skin and upgrading the interior of its trucks. Combine that with the fact that Dodge won't need the more complicated urea injection system in the exhaust stream to meet these tougher emissions regulations (as Ford and GM will); a vicious price war could be just around the corner.The SpecsThough the 2011 Ram HD looks new from the outside, much of the big truck's foundation and powertrains remain the same. In fact, the frame and steering boxes (and ratios) are all carryover. Underhood, powertrain choices are unchanged, with the base engine the gas 5.7-liter Hemi V8 producing 380 hp at 5600 rpm and 400 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The Hemi is matched with a five-speed automatic. The optional engine, the bulletproof Cummins 6.7-liter I6 turbodiesel, is rated at 350 hp at 3000 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque at 1500 rpm and comes with a six-speed manual (the only one in its class) or an automatic option.Although Dodge retains all the previous wheelbase and cab options, it's worth noting that the Quad Cab four-door configuration has been replaced by a new, larger, more conventional four-full-size-door Crew Cab. All cab configurations (Regular, Crew, and Mega Cabs) come in long- and short-bed configurations, except for the Mega Cab model, which is only offered with a 6-foot 4-inch bed. Four-wheel-drive models continue to use a solid front axle and a coil-link suspension, while 4x2 models use a short- and long-arm independent suspension, utilizing heavy-duty coil springs. Other design characteristics unique to the new 2010 Ram HD include a taller stance, a more muscular, bulging hood with mock cooling slats, and massive front and rear bumpers. Additionally, for 3500 Ram HD dually fans, the rear fender flare, rather than the previous bolt-on-looking flares, is now integrated into the bed itself.The model lineup includes ST, SLT, TRX, Laramie, and Power Wagon, the latter of which has a new body graphic package, stickers on the hood dome, and block-style lettering on the tailgate that ape the Power Wagon style of the 1970s. Additionally, among the more notable exterior changes are the larger, forward-slanting grille, a floating lower cut line through the cab, and a thicker, more chiseled tailgate with its air-foil lip.The DriveWe slid behind the wheel of a Crew Cab SLT 4x4 long-bed with the Cummins and six-speed automatic first. This is the volume leader for the Ram HD lineup and had the 40/20/40 front-bench seat that functions like a set of bucket seats with a big, fold-down center storage console. Even the vinyl SLT seats had plenty of cushion and bolstering similar to higher trim-package models. A new gauge cluster behind a larger, fatter steering wheel now includes an information center between the tachometer and speedometer, allowing the driver to access information such as tire pressures, trailer-brake readings, fuel economy and much more.The long-bed model was almost 22 feet long, with a wheelbase that spanned over 14 feet. As you might expect in an empty live-axle pickup weighing more than 7500 pounds, our Ram HD was prone to shaking our belly a bit over certain portions of bad Texas road. Still, for a rig this large, we found the steering quick to react and comfortably progressive through faster cornering. The Cummins motor is simply a monster. It's really surprising that something that large can move as quickly as it does when you boot the throttle. Even at 70 mph our 6.7-liter Cummins was loafing along (with 3.42:1 gears) at 1500 rpm. The thumb-activated gear shifter on the automatic transmission falls under the palm when comfortably resting your hand on the column shifter. It makes up- and down-shifting a finger-poke rather than quick flip.The Bottom LineThe new Ram HD doesn't pack technological advancements to leapfrog the competition. But it does offer the kind of hauling capability that Dodge loyalists demand. Many will appreciate the Crew Cab's conventional sizing. But what new Ram HD buyers are likely to really enjoy are the cost savings they'll get. Over the course of our 120-mile two-lane highway romp through the Hill Country of Central Texas, we got an average of 16.2 mpg--not too bad. With pricing below last year's stickers (base price is $28,165) and a few select models getting big discounts, the new Ram HDs will likely be building their market-share numbers. Expect prices to top out, depending on models and options, at $55,000. Our secret is simple...LOW OVERHEAD. We are an internet-only dealer. We do not maintain regular office hours or a large sales facility. We simply have a Mississippi bonded dealer's license, a storage lot, and a computer. You will notice that we sometimes go with private auctions. Our reasons are twofold...the latest scam is to send bogus 2nd chance offers to customers from a fake email address in an attempt to scam them out of money. With a private auction the scammers won't know who our bidders are so if you get a 2nd chance offer from us you will know that it is the real deal! In addition, we set our reserves to sell which upsets other sellers! In fact, sometimes we set our reserve $1,000 or more below what our cost is. This leads other sellers to email our customers and knock our product! We will provide the winning bidder, upon request, with a complete bid history including the usernames & bid amounts of all other bidders. All new or low feedback (under 5 positives) bidders must first email us for no other reason than just to make contact. This way we know we have serious bidders! If you don't make contact we will cancel your bid and black you out from future bidding. We do this to avoid the de@dbe@t bidders, so please respect our policy.
