The Tahoes fuel economy estimates are good for the class, though its reliability is a tad below some rivals. An available front bench seat increases seating capacity to nine, which makes the Tahoe a smart choice for large families. The midrange 5.3-liter V8 is arguably the best engine, as it has more power and similar fuel economy to the base 4.8-liter. Critics who tested the 5.3-liter Tahoe said that the engine makes plenty of power, and with it, the Tahoe hits its maximum towing capacity of 8,400 pounds. Fuel economy with either two- or four-wheel drive is 14/20 mpg city/highway with the 5.3-liter V8, while figures for the other two engines are slightly worse.
