Vehicle Detail

Specs: Year: 1971 Make: Chevrolet Model: Chevelle Trim: SS (non-original) Does have correct SS dash and 12-bolt rearend VIN: 136371L101193 Miles: 62,612 (actual miles unknown) Engine: 402 Big Block (non-original) Transmission: TCI Turbo 400 Automatic (non-original) Rear End: 12 Bolt, 3.42 posi Front Seats: Bucket Front Seatbelts: Yes Induction Type: 4V Induction Interior: Black Exterior: Red Matching #'s Engine: No Wheels: 15X7 SS Doors: 2 Spare/Jack: No Rear Seatbelts: Yes Power Steering: Yes Power Brakes: Yes AC: No This car was originally a small block 350/350 car, gold with brown interior, ps, pb, ac, and a 10 bolt. The great thing about this car is that it has all its original metal. It is completely rust free, including the rust free floor and trunk pan. The quarter panels and doors are all original. The panel gap is excellent. The car was purchased new in Arizona, and the original Arizona title is included. The car has always been garaged, and since the restoration it has never seen rain. A frame-off restoration has been completed over a +10-year timeframe. A 1970 LS6 SS Chevelle donated its dash and 12 bolt rearend housing which now contains an Auburn positrac and 3.42 gears. The SS dash contains all the correct gauges and all of them work, but the clock does not. It originally had a bench seat, but it now has Procar Elite bucket seats. Another nice feature is that Scat/Procar made me a one-off custom rear seat using the same materials and stitching patterns that the front buckets have. The TMI console is made of the same materials used on the door panels, including the matching chrome strip. The paint is a two-stage urethane. The vinyl stripes were clear coated and wet sanded for a flush feel. There are a couple small pin-hole size chips on the driver’s door, but this is still a show quality paint job. Because the car is not numbers matching, I did take the liberty to dress it up, for example painting the inner fenders and the bottom of the hood gloss black, instead of the factory satin. Because the trunk paint was in such good shape, I left it, partially to show off how good the car originally was before the restoration, and also because it simply did not need repainting. The engine has been rebuilt and uses iron heads that have been ported. The engine is topped off with Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, and it runs amazing. The cam has enough lift to provide a nice mean idle, but it is no overly dramatic and it is very driveable. The quick shifting TCI 400 Turbo makes for a great combination that has no trouble roasting the tires in any gear. There is plenty of chrome dress up items, including: air cleaner, valve covers, fan, alternator bracket, booster, master cylinder, thermostat housing, radiator cover, and the pulleys. I made some restoration decisions that I would like to clarify. I did go back with original GM exhaust manifolds instead of headers, this was a conscience choice because headers are hard to maneuver in the engine compartment, and replacing gaskets, a common occurrence, is problematic. Also, I did not put SS emblems on the sides because I couldn’t bring myself to drill into the virgin quarter panels. Additionally, I did not put the ac back on the car because it clutters the engine bay, and frankly they too often require maintenance simply not justified by the rare use. I did keep the column shift, which is very precise, and shifts easy with both hands on the wheel, don't knock it until you try it. I have been working on cars and restoring them for the last 25 years. The following is an assessment of the major components, using a 1-5 rating system. (1=perfect, 2=excellent/very good, 3=good/driver quality, 4=ok/restorable, 5=poor). The car overall is a solid 2. With beautiful paint, fresh big block engine, and new interior, this is a show quality car. The following parts are rated 1, as they are all new: Headliner Sail Panels Package Tray Door Panels Carpet Steering Wheel Window Cranks, Windlace, Mouldings Sill Plates Carpet Kit Sound Deadener Kenwood Speakers TMI Center Console Procar Bucket Seats - Elite One-off Elite Rear Seat Big Block Springs, cut 1 coil Monroe Front Shocks Front Sway Bar and Bushings, 1.25 inch solid Rear Shocks (air) Endlinks & Bushings BFG Tires, 275 60 15 rear, 255 60 15 front Center Caps, Trim Rings 25mm inch rear wheel spacers Chrome Brake Booster Chrome Master Cylinder Built & Balanced 402 Big Block Accel Distrutor Edelbrock Performer Carb (750CFM) New TCI built Turbo 400 12 bolt rear Auburn Posi with 3.42 gears The following parts are rated #2: Paint (10 years old, but beautiful) 1970 LS6 Dash with 7k redline tach (original GM) Rear Sway Bar, 1 inch solid 15 X 7 SS Wheels Edelbrock Performer Intake Exhaust Manifolds Mufflers-Flowmaster 50 series Radiator SS Grill Steel cowl hood w/o flapper box The following parts are rated #3: Sun Visors Arm Rests Seat Belts Bumpers VIN Decoded: 1-Chevrolet, 36-8 Cylinder Malibu, 37-2 door sport coupe, 1-Year 1971, L-built in Van Nuys, California, 101193-Sequential Production Number I am available for questions, 816-665-6791
