Vehicle Detail
VERY Rare in 1998 = A REAL "Factory Sport AMG Model"! Mercedes Aficionados will tell you the 1998 Model year was the best of the R129's (1989-2002 SL's)(year before Chrysler - became a more"watered down" product - in performance and hardware)1996-1998 = Only years they offered the more powerful Quad Cam engine with the 5 speed Auto Transmission. This is a "Texas car", has been with me for last few years until I recently moved to Milwaukee in Sep.2015. Q: What is a "Sport AMG Model"/ Q2: why so rare in 1998? A: Added larger AMG wheels, sport tags, and body trim throughout-Very Rare in '98, $4,970 factory upgrade. A2: Less than 8% came with "sport" option - From '99+ = NOT rare. Q: What does the car need?A: Nothing, runs and drives like new. Everything works- A/C blows Ice Cold. All power options work like new. Q: Any cosmetic flaws, how would you rate it?A: "Show Car Quality throughout -body, engine compartment, trunk, and underbody"-perfecto! Q: How many miles?A: As of today it just touched over 60k miles Q: Is the car ALL original?A: Yes! *Comes from my private collection- have owned since 2012*Clean clear title - Auto check score 78! Range is (24-50) FACTS: 0-60MPH = 6.3 seconds Motor Trend MagazineTOP SPEED = 149MPH Motor Trend Magaine Sport/AMG Option included:Taller and wider AMG wheels -18" diam. x 8" width (Front) 18" diam. x 9" width (Back)Front SpoilerSide Skirts"Sport" Badges$4,970 price tag Total price of this car NEW with all options right around $90k HAGERTY Classic Car Insurance does a great job tracking the "realized" values (only thing is they don't consider miles): Aug 2015 #1 Condition $22,500 Aug 2015 #2 Condition $15,800This would easily be graded #2 Condition -rolling back the clock 5 years - Buy It Now = $14,900*Due to scarcity they do not factor in the premium for the "Sport/AMG" upgrade Call (262) 751.3029 with ANY questions I made a copy of the current AutoCheck report so you don't have to: Wouldn't buy a car without running this first. "Clean/Clear Title in hand" The "RARE" Sport AMG factory emblem/not one of the fakes Original Michelin Spare Tire and kit in new condition. I do have ALL the original manuals and original Mercedes folder (shown below). Also, these center consoles have a tendency to crack- This one is like new - as is the interior as a whole. You literally could eat off this engine compartment - no leaks. Just had oil changed and ALL fluid levels checked Novemeber 2015 On Nov-19-15 at 22:32:00 PST, seller added the following information: I just looked at ebay completed 1998 Mercedes SL500 Sport/AMG Mine at 60k miles- MINT condition - Autocheck Score of 78 $Price ? Under ebay Completed auctions other 1998 Mercedes "Real" SL500 AMG: 1.) 72k miles- Excellent condition - Autocheck Score of 38 Price - $13,100 Reserve Not Met/Wouldn't Sell 2.) 135,153 miles- looked pretty nice - nice ad by seller. 75 SOLD - $9,401 I believe there were a total of 18 1998 SL500 listed, but only two "Actual" Sport/AMG versions: Be Careful - People will sometimes list them as AMG - when all they have are the wheels - that is why I mention "Real and Actual" Sport/AMG models. The Sport /AMG versions of these are what you want to own/collect/invest - they started in 1997 and lasted through the end of the R129 run, but were only rare the 1st two years. Do your due dilligence and you will find that 1998 is the BEST year of the "R129 design" because of the engine/transmission, the 1997 is a very close 2nd. Then obviously you want mileage and condition. You can see the premium these command - even a car with 135k+ miles nearly hit $10k. If that were a non-Sport/AMG and a different year R129 your looking right around $6k. It's pretty safe to say there is around a 40-50% increase based on condition/mileage. * Nothing against the car with Sport/AMG with 135k miles - for under $10k it's hard to find a car that sharp which retailed close to six figures. If it has been well maintained the engine will go for 250k like the seller mentioned in his ad-buyer got a great deal. If you look at trend lines on these you will see this year and Sport/AMG are going up pretty fast. If I hadn't moved from Texas to Wisconsin where I have to store it 1/2 the year I wouldn't be selling it. Whoever wins this bid is getting a gem!GOOD LUCK! PS: Take some time and look under my ebay feedback:- I have sold other cars over the years from my collection and pride myself as being honest with my descriptions and providing quick responses to your questions. The cars I sell are only of high quality - I'm a picky owner. Thanks for viewing my auction On Nov-24-15 at 20:51:15 PST, seller added the following information: Because of various problems I have had with certain bidders in the past - PLEASE contact me if you are new to ebay or have a score of less than 5. I'm not saying I wont take your bid, but I just want to make sure it is a legit bid and don't have to relist the item. Thank You - you can reach me at 262.751.3029 Cell or you can contact me through ebay - I have an ebay app on my phone.
