This car is NOT RUNNING, and has been on non-operating status for several years. Full Disclosure: I am selling because I have a 1998 SL500, and no one except the 1% can keep up with maintaining two vintage Mercedes for long. I parked it because of a front end issue; as I turned the corner I heard a loud noise at the right front end and steering became difficult. The engine was running well when I parked it. Other issues include slipping transmission (it has developed a leak, so seals must be replaced), steering gearbox should be rebuilt (too much play), the interior should be replaced, and the soft top could use restitching or replacement. I had the car painted shortly before I parked it. I have maintenance receipts going back 30 years. Clear title. It has been in a minor fender bender, and the right front fender, right side mirror, hood and grill were replaced.The car looks great, as you can see from the pictures. Interior is rough, and seats should be rebuilt and recovered. Tires are good, AC and Heater works great. Transmission slips somewhat; steering play indicates a need for a gearbox rebuild. Strong engine, $7,000 valve job and timing chain replacement at 117,600 miles. Muffler and catalytic converter replaced at 148,000 miles. Fuel pump and fuel module replaced at 144,000 miles. Water pump replaced at 143,000 miles.ABS hydro unit replaced at 136,000 miles (for $2500). Make no mistake, this car needs work by someone who knows what they're doing. However, with the right person, this car could double or triple your investment. I am not a mechanic, and have my hands full with my SL500. Please ask questions. This is a as is/where is auction.
