The majority of the mechanical work was done at Tom’s Bronco Parts (TBP) in Medford, OR. Tom’s has been a leader in vintage broncos since 1979 and is an authority on early Broncos so you can be confident that only genuine parts were used and that only their expert staff performed the labor to make this truck right. As you probably know, it is rare to have detailed records (or any records!) on a truck of this vintage. I purchased the Bronco from Mainly Muscle Cars earlier this year. They are a custom shop that produce some of the most beautiful muscle cars you see at the big televised auctions today. They did the gorgeous paint job and a good bulk of the cosmetic and restoration work to make this truck near show quality. I then took the truck to the next level including a completely modern dashboard, switches, knobs, power accessories, winch, stereo, new seats, custom door panels and an insane amount of attention to detail. I’ve been customizing and restoring cars since 1989 and generally do only one project per year so I can focus on making it perfect. This was my summer project and now it is finally ready for a new owner who will appreciate all the hard work and little details that have been done to make it a safe, fun and reliable cruiser. Driving Impressions: The Bronco was built up as a daily driver and I drive it regularly here in Los Angeles on the freeways, in the canyons and by the beach. It starts up perfectly each time and handles like a dream at any speed. The power steering, front disc brakes, NV3550 transmission, tilt column and other conveniences all make it feel and drive like a modern truck. The 2.5” lift is the perfect size to make it easy to get in and out of the truck while still making it a very capable off-roader. Upgraded urethane suspension bushings all around allow for comfortable alignment specs and easy freeway cruising without any vibrations or drama. Electrical: The complete wiring harness was professionally replaced with a Centech harness. The installation was very clean and the upgrade to a modern fuse box should make future upgrades hassle-free. Push button start, power door locks and power windows all make this truck much more livable for every day driving. For colder climates, the heater is extremely powerful and blows correctly at variable speeds. The power windows are extra trick and look like a standard roll-up crank, but a slight touch on the handle up or down moves the windows electrically. No expense was spared to include the best winch on the market, a Warn Zeon 10-S with a Sypdura synthetic rope. A Pioneer MVHX560BT head unit streams music via bluetooth directly from your mobile phone and is voice capable for making and receiving phone calls. A Dakota Digital Instrument Cluster provides an easy to read digital display and a modern look. The headlights were replaced with JW Speaker LED headlights and the tail lights were also replaced with LED panels for super-bright visibility at night. A brand new Optima yellow top battery also ensures clean and reliable power for any situation. Mechanical: Under the hood, the 302 has been tuned with a desirable Edelbrock F4B Intake Manifold, Holley Street Avenger Carburetor, Performance Camshaft, MSD Ignition and Tom’s Bronco Parts long tube headers. This truck produces some awesome power. The NV3550 is a modern 5-speed transmission and first gear is fully synchronized and 5th gear is an overdrive. Clutch engagement is smooth and predictable making this an easy Bronco to drive for anyone. A heavy duty cooling system was also installed for cool operating temperatures in all conditions. Wheels, Tires & Suspension: The Bronco sits on Fuel Trophy 17 x 9 wheels. The simulated bead lock and paint color matches the truck perfectly and offers a simple, but aggressive look. The wheels are nearly flush with the fender so the truck stays cleaner and the tires ride a bit quieter on the road. The wheels are wrapped in new 285/75R Toyo ATII tires and are a perfect combination of tread pattern & rubber compound to maintain a quiet profile on the street with incredible traction and grip off-road. The 2.5” lift is a K-BAR-S kit, the springs are medium firm and the shocks dampen even the worst ruts, potholes or uneven pavement. This truck drives as comfortably on a dirt road as it does on the highway at 70 miles per hour. Exterior: The recent Carbon Grey paint job looks fantastic and the whole truck was just coated with CQartz Finest for a perfect shine. The antenna, rear lift gate handle, vent window handles and all door locks were replaced with new, high-quality reproductions. The top is in perfect condition with new seals all around. The doors open and close properly (a rarity for early Broncos!) and brand new door weather stripping ensures a tight seal all around. The bumpers are heavy-duty steel ‘Impact Bumpers’ from Tom’s. They have been freshly powder coated for a long lasting and durable finish. The rear impact bumper has a swing away spare tire mount capable of supporting the full size spare with confidence. Dual gas tanks with a high capacity rear tank ensure you’ll have plenty of fuel between adventures. Interior: The entire dashboard was rebuilt with Drake billet aluminum knobs and switches. This provides not only a modern and matching look, but ensures everything will work properly for years to come. Brand new Corbeau Baja RS Suspension seats were installed in the front and a brand new Corbeau Baja Bench in the rear. The front seats are 5-point harness capable and fully adjustable. A new set of retractable, 3-point seat belts were also installed to ensure the truck is up to modern safety standards. A new black carpet kit was installed and custom shift knobs and billet aluminum trim finish off the floorboard area. The factory fixed column was replaced with an aftermarket tilt column and adjusts with comfortable angles and an easier entrance or exit for drivers of all sizes. A brand new Grant Signature Series leather steering wheel white stitching and an embossed Bronco horn button give this truck a classic look. The Little Things: Custom door panels were built to accommodate Kicker DSC5 speakers in the doors. These panels are a one of a kind and the upholstery work was done by one of LA’s finest craftsmen. The attention to detail is absolutely impeccable. The door handle cups were replaced with billet aluminum pieces for a custom look. A custom Triumph interior ashtray light was installed with LED lights. A locking Tuffy center console keeps your valuables safe. Door lock knobs, E-brake handle, pedal covers, headlight and tail light trim were all replaced with high quality billet aluminum parts. The license plate light was replaced with an LED bulb. The The ugly square front 1969 turn signals, were replaced with brand new 1968 integrated turn signals that were custom fitted for a flush and streamlined appearance. The headlight and tail light bezels were also replaced with beefy billet aluminum trim which look absolutely great. Summary: This early Bronco is enthusiast owned with custom touches and detail everywhere you look. Most importantly, it is in immaculate condition and mechanically sound. Anything that was showing any sort of wear previously was replaced with a new or upgraded part. While this is not a 100% show truck, it is pretty darned nice... that said, keep in mind that it is nearly 50 years old so I’ve done my best to show any blemishes in the photos below. There are just way too many upgrades and details to list and I’m certain I’m forgetting a few things, so I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Of course, I also have the clear California title in hand and the tags are current. Cash only and no trades please. Please contact me directly with any questions, requests for additional info or to schedule a showing. Serious buyers only - tire kickers will not be tolerated and your bid is a contract.
