Vehicle Detail
After much debating, I have decided to sell this awesome 1985 Jeep CJ7 Renegade. I purchased it June 2014 from its second owner near San Antonio, Texas. In the last year it has been a lot of fun, but I am in a place where I am commuting more to work (and working more), and it just doesn't get the attention it deserves. This Jeep is by far the coolest car I have ever owned. I bought it originally because I wanted a 4x4 that was rugged but still pretty. I love the brown and tan combo. I also couldn't believe the low mileage. It was taken care of so well before I found it, I was motivated to keep it up and give it some love too. The engine is a straight six, super easy to work on. My dad was so excited when he opened the hood. It is mostly all original. The man I purchased it from said the original owner never removed the hard top, and that he only put 2500 miles on it. It's pretty rare to find a 30 year old vehicle with less than 90K miles on it! It has the hard top and full doors (with full windows). The speedometer and odometer both work and I have had a local Jeep service shop try to replace the gas and temp gauges, though they both still don't work. I have learned the hard way to just carry a gas can.... The heater works, though I rarely drove it in the winter. The only things I have done, service-wise (aside from oil changes and some gasket replacements) is replace the water pump and battery. It has a Weber carb and I run carburetor cleaner through at least once a month. The only other modification is a reverse-shackle kit that the previous owner installed. It runs well and is a ton of fun to drive. Cosmetically, it isn't too shabby for a 30 year old 4x4. The paint (which I believe was redone a few years ago) looks great, shiny and smooth. There is a little rust on the door handles, though none on the floorpans or body. There is a small crack in the dash. The driver's seat needs to be reupholstered or replaced. The passenger and rear seats are both great. The carpet is original... so it's old, but in good shape. I was planning on getting it Rhino-lined but have decided to sell as is. The hard top is in great shape, but could use new weatherstripping. We might replace this when we put the top back on for the purchaser. It has a black Bestop bikini top, perfect for cruising around in the fall weather. The tires are in great shape and have plenty of tread. It has been parked in a covered spot and has been started regularly, even when it isn't being driven. I think over the last year I have only put a thousand to fifteen hundred miles on this baby. I can't justify keeping it when all I do is drive it to a swimming hole or to run an errand. It's definitely an eye turner. I get at least one comment on it every time I drive it. I am going to miss this car, but I am trying to be smart and have to trust another one will come around again some day. It runs great. It looks good. I just don't need two vehicles...
