Vehicle Detail
Porsche 911 Targa SC 1982. I purchased this car in April 2014 with a view to restore and enjoy. I found it on my local Craig’s List advertised as an unfinished restoration and in a partly dismantled state. The current owner at the time owned a small auto repair business and he bought it with a view to totally restore it. This never materialized. Much the same story with me although I have made quite a lot of progress. The car had been purchased from the then current owner who was located in Maryland, by the person that I bought it from. Due to various reasons, I have decided to reluctantly sell it. The body. This is rust free with no major issues. There was the odd small ding that required only a very small amount of plastic based filler. The paint was removed down to the bare metal, etch primed and base coat black applied but requires finishing. There is some paint that will come with the car which I believe will be enough to finish it. The underneath is in great condition. The interior. The seats are Berber material and the driver side requires recovering or local repair where the material has worn away over the years. The passenger and rear seats are in quite good condition. The black carpeting is in fair condition with exception of driver side which has worn a little on the underside. The top dash panel is split. The door panels are new hardboard items with the original covering which is in fair condition. The rear panel behind the seats is in very good condition. This is not the original and came out of a car that was used for racing and not required so was offered for sale. Brakes and suspension. Not evaluated at this time due to the car not being in a running state. The brake pedal has a good solid feel. No sign of leaking fluid although would be best to evaluate the whole braking system. The engine. This was out of the car and complete. It was stored in the workshop. The owner had no history regarding the engine but it came with the car and it turned over and there was good compression on all cylinders. The numbers stamped on the crankcase housing (6460 484 * 911/82) relate to it being a 3 liter which would be the correct one for this model ..I decided to pull the engine apart for evaluation and found it to be in very good order with exception of the exhaust valve guides which are worn. The crankshaft was cleaned and inspected. This had only minor marks and was refitted using new bearings. (These items were purchased from a good source and the manufacturer is Glyco). However, these turned out to be too big. After measuring the journals it seemed evident that a different crankshaft had been fitted at some time in the past. This is most likely a 2.7 unit. The correct bearings were sourced after relating the old bearing numbers which were the OEM items to the supplier. The bottom end was rebuilt using new connecting rod bearings and new nuts and bolts. New crankshaft seals were installed. Two new timing chains were also installed. The pistons and bores were evaluated and apart from requiring light honing are in fair condition. The bore size is 90mm. The transmission. This was also out of the car and stored inside. Visually looks okay and still has oil in it but I cannot verify the integrity. All parts of the clutch assembly are present and look to be in reasonable condition. So that pretty well covers it but there’s the possibility I could have missed something (not any easier as you get older!). I have done my best to give a fair description. Please feel free to ask any questions before bidding and I will do my best to answer in a timely manner. Should you require any photos giving more detail please contact me through the message system. Only sincere bidders please who have the funds and good feedback. If you want to bid from overseas you must first contact me. I am not a Porsche expert but I am a pretty good mechanical engineer and that is how I have made my living for the past fifty years. I do not offer refunds or returns but willing to listen to any genuine complaints if you should win the car and feel that the listing was misleading. This car will be impressive when complete and a good investment. If you are looking for a project 911 that requires little work to complete this may be the one for you. I’m reluctant to let it go but at this time it’s necessary. The car has bee inside since I purchased it, only coming outside on a nice day for photos. Good luck to all who bid and thanks for viewing. Mike The car has never been registered in Illinois due to restoring but has a clear Maryland title. This was a German import and the VIN number is WPOZZZPZCS141141
