Vehicle Detail
VERY RARE 2001 MERCEDES R129 SL600R (R129) IN ONE OF MOST DESIRABLE COLOR COMBOS BRILLIANT SILVER (744) EXTERIOR / EXCLUSIVE BLACK NAPA LEATHER INTERIOR (511). IN ADDITION IT HAS THE VERY DESIRABLE AMG SPORT BODY PACKAGE AND EXTREMELY RARE FACTORY 2 PIECE AMG WHEELS MADE BY BBS AS WELL AS A PANOROOF. ALTHOUGH THE CAR HAS 35K MILES I BELIEVE YOU WILL NOT FIND A CLEANER R129 ANYWHERE OTHER THAN PERHAPS THE MERCEDES BENZ MUSEUM IN STUTTGART, I'M NOT KIDDING. I AM A MERCEDES BENZ ENTHUSIAST AND THIS CAR WAS GIVEN A COMPLETE OPEN CHECKBOOK WHEN I BOUGHT IT A FEW YEARS AGO ADDRESSING EVERY ISSUE BOTH MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL. I JUST EVEN JUST RECENTLY HAD BOTH BUMPERS AND THE SIDE SKIRTS RE-SPRAYED SIMPLY DUE TO THE MINOR PITTING THAT CAME WITH 35K MILES. WHILE DOING SO I ALSO REPLACED THE FOG LIGHTS, HEADLIGHT LENSES, GRILL AND WINDSHIELD. ABOUT A YEAR OR SO AGO I BOUGHT THE PANOROOF FOR IT. ALTHOUGH THE COLOR COMBO WAS CORRECT UNFORTUNATELY THE 600 IT CAME OFF WAS A CAR WITH OVER 100K MILES SO IT HAD SEEN THE SUN AND THE ELEMENTS. THEREFORE I OF COURSE REPLACED ALL THE ALUMINIUM TRIM PIECES, ALL THE SEALS AND MOST OF THE INTERIOR TRIM PIECES SO IT WOULD BE ON PAR WITH THE QUALITY OF THE REST OF THE CAR. I EVEN RETROFITTED THE FACTORY PHONE SYSTEM WITH THE MB MOTOROLA V60 BLUETOOTH CABLE / DONGLE SO YOU CAN HAVE ANDS FREE CALLING WITH A MODERN PHONE AND THE FACTORY BECKER CM1910 HEAD UNIT (WHICH I ALSO SOURCED A NEW FACE PLATE AND KNOB FOR). I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT BY NOW YOU PROBABLY GET THE POINT. IN SHORT AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THE USED CARS YOU WILL EVER SEE USUALLY LOOK MUCH BETTER IN PICTURES THAN THEY DO IN PERSON. THAT IS NOT THE CASE WITH THIS ONE, IT IS THE OPPOSITE. ALTHOUGH IT OBVIOSULY DOES LOOK GREAT IN THE PICS IF YOU ARE SERIOUSLY INTERESTED IN THE CAR I WOULD HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU COME SEE IT AND LET ME PUT IT ON A LIFT SO YOU CAN LOOK AT IF FROM EVERY PERSPECTIVE. IT IS THEN THAT YOU CAN REALLY GET AN APPRECIATION FOR THE INCREDIBLE CONDITION IT IS IN. IF IT DOES SELL THE BUYER FOR THIS CAR WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY BE ANOTHER MB ENTHUSIAST THAT WANTS THE ABSOLUTE BEST 129 THAT THEY COULD EVER FIND AND IS WILLING TO PAY A PREMIUIM FOR IT. YOU COULD TAKE THIS CAR TO ANY MB EVENT OR SHOW AND I'M CERTAIN NOONE WILL HAVE A NICER R129 (OR PROBABLY ANY OTHER CAR THERE FOR THAT MATTER). HOWEVER ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOUR INTENTION WOULD BE TO DRIVE IT YOU ALSO CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS CAR. IT NEEDS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I WENT THROUGH EVERYTHING, ALL FLUIDS (ENGINE, TRANS, REAR END, COOLANT, HYDRUALIC, ETC.), ALL FILTERS, PLUGS. IT HAS NEW BRAKES, NEW TIRES, ETC. ETC. ALL THAT SAID I'M SURE I WILL BE ASKED WHY I AM I SELLING IT. THE ANSWER IS I'M NEARING THE COMPLETION OF A NUT AND BOLT RESTORATION ON ANOTHER BENZ AND I'M STARTING TO HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT HAVING TWO CARS THAT REMAIN COVERED UP IN A SHOP AND I DON'T DRIVE. THEREFORE I AM WILLING TO LET THE 129 GO IF I CAN GET OFF IT FOR A REASONBLE NUMBER (AND AT $35K I WILL STILL BE LOSING A LOT OF MONEY ON IT). I HAVE OVER $20K IN RECEIPTS OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS FOR PARTS AND MISC. WORK (NOT INCLUDING THE RECENT PAINT WORK) AND I HAVE LOST TRACK OF HOW MANY HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF MY OWN TIME I HAVE SPENT WORKING ON THE CAR. ANYWAYS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AND AGAIN IF POSSIBLE I WOULD HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME SEE THE CAR IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS BUYER. SPEAKING OF WHICH PLEASE DONT CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE A DEALER OR SOMEBODY WITH A LOWBALL OFFER. THIS IS BY NO MEANS A DISTRESSED SALE. ALSO PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE NO OR VERY LITTLE EBAY FEEDBACK. SAME STORY IF YOU HAVE SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE FFEDBACK. I HAVE 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK WITH 863 TRANSACTIONS AND ALTHOUGH MOST OF THOSE ARE FOR PURCHASES IT SHOULD GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE THAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH A REPUTABLE INDIVIDUAL. I KNOW I'M ASKING A FAIRLY STRONG NUMBER FOR THIS CAR BUT BETWEEN IT'S CONDITION AND EVERYTHING ELSE IT IS A RELATIVE BARGAIN TO THE RIGHT BUYER. LASTLY A $500 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS DUE VIA PAYPAL WITHIN 24 HOURS OF PURCHASE AND THE BALANCE OF PAYMENT WITHIN 7 DAYS. I WILL ONLY ACCEPT WIRE TRANSFER (PRFERABLY) OR CASH. ALSO IF NOT LOCAL I'M HAPPY TO ASSIST WITH SHIPPING BUT THE BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING IT ALONG WITH ALL ASSOCIATED COSTS. MY SUGGESTION HOWEVER WOULD BE TO DRIVE IT HOME IF POSSIBLE AS ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT PUT MANY MILES ON IT SINCE BUYING IT THE FEW ROAD TRIPS I HAVE TAKEN WERE A BLAST, THE M120 V12 IS JUST AWESOME. LASTLY SELLER RESERVES RIGHT TO CANCEL THIS LISTING AT ANY TIME AS THE CAR IS ALSO BEING ADVERTISED IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT PLACES. THANKS ERIC (714) 475-8686 Update 9/12/15: The following is to address some of the same questions / concerns that I have been asked about. 1. Although I obviously am not the original owner there is absolutely no sign the car has ever been hit or in any sort of accident. 2. Along the lines of #1 the only parts of the car that have been repainted are the front and rear bumpers and side skirts and again were done so just to make them look perfect (no pitting or rock chips). All were completely dissembled and sprayed off the car with OE Mercedes Benz paint (Spies Hecker) and then re-installed. 3. As requested I put the car on a lift this morning and took a few pictures of the undercarriage (see last three pictures I added) 4. With regards to the ownership history I am not aware of who it was first titled to but given the history report I think the car may have been a Mercedes Benz Brass Hat car or just was titled to an executive at the dealer it was originally delivered. However this is just pure speculation on my part. I purchased the car from the son of the 2nd owner who resided in New Hampshire. He was an older gentleman who had a number of high end cars so given it's low mileage this car was obviously driven sparingly when the weather was nice. Accordingly to his son (3rd owner I purchased it from) he was having a hard time getting in and out of it so he gave it to him and although it remained registered in NH he lived in Arizona. He said he was not really into sports / luxury cars (he was into off road toys) thus he subsequently sold it to me where it has resided here in SoCal since. 5. As far as service records I do have a VMI from a MB dealership showing its service / repair history up to 3/30/05 where at 22K miles the catalytic converters were replaced under warranty. As I stated in my listing above I have everything since I purchased the car in May of 2013. I actually just added everything up in the file and it totals a hair under $23,000. (plus another $1,800 for the paint work noted in #2 above) I hope that fills in some of the blanks for anyone else interested but please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. As far as the interested parties that are not local I really wish you could see the car in person because I could take a 100 more pictures but it is just not the same. Lastly for the individuals that have tried to point to the asking price of other "similar" cars currently for sale in hopes I will lower my price considerably you are comparing apples and oranges. I'm very aware of the market for 129's. You can get into a 600 for next to nothing right now but more than likely the cheapest part of one of those is going to be buying it. There was a reason these cars cost $130,000 + when they were new. That being the case one can very easily run up a $10K + tab with when things go south or just getting a car back up to par (and I'm not talking about cosmetic issues for which you can burn through money almost as fast). On that note remember these cars are hitting 15 - 20 years of age and most of them have changed hands a number of times by now and often have been purchased relatively cheap by individuals who a lot of times could not really afford (or just would not spend the money) to maintain them properly. Thus I know many of the cars out there (especially the cheap / higher mileage ones) are potential huge money pits. There is an old saying amongst MB enthusiast, "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes Benz." Thanks Eric PS: Thank you to everyone that has sent me compliments on the car as well. :)
