One of 700 Fiat Pininfarina 124 Sport 2.0 Turbo Original Low MileageOn Sep-01-15 at 16:23:48 PDT, seller added the following information: The Pninfarina Design House had famously collaborated with Fiat since it was established by Battista Pininfarina back in the 1930s. As one of the most successful design houses in history, it was commissioned to create numerous sporty Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Maserati, and Lancia, and is the designer that dresses most of the Ferraris to this day. Many heart achingly beautiful cars came to life by Battista's successor Sergio Pininfarina, but his signature car for more than five decades of genius is this Pininfarina Spider. Commissioned by Fiat in 1966 as the 124 Spider, it was hand built at the design house for an astonishing two decades.To show how dear this model was to Sergio Pininfarina, the decision was made to give it the Pininfarina name, replacing the 124 Spider. He also chose the Spider to represent the 50th anniversary of the design house that created almost all of the most outrageous Ferraris, and later decided to continue producing the car independently. The elegant Spider body was conceived on the modest Fiat 124 sedan's shortened frame and simple mechanics, but during its long life in production, it received a great mechanical layout to fit its Ferrari looks. Most importantly, it received one of the best 4 cylinders engine ever produced- the aluminium DHOC cross-flow that was designed by ex-Ferrari chief engineer Aurelio Lampredi. The one presented here, a 1981 Turbo, is the most advanced Spider version Fiat offered excluding the race versions.It has the 1,995 cc capacity, that was produced from 1979 - the biggest capacity on a Spider. It also has the Bosch fuel injection version, which was very successfully added in mid 1980, and most importantly, it features the original turbo that Fiat USA commissioned in 1981 to be produced for the local market.Only 700 of the Pininfarina Spider turbo are believed to have been produced, making it a great low volume production collectible. This Pininfarina Spider Turbo is a low mileage and carefully used example. In the past few years it was stored in my collection. It starts, drives, and shifts well but I'm sure it will need some attention due to the long lack of use. It has an older paint job that is cracked at some places and has one rust spot on the driver's side lower fender. The rest of the body is amazingly rust free and as you can see- the paint still shines nicely.It was fitted with a new top that is in great shape.It s a very original and rare car. I'm sure you'll have a blast driving it and just owning this very beautiful and rare investment.It is being sold as is but you are welcome to come and have a look at it before bidding. On Sep-03-15 at 10:44:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Just brought the Spider out of storage for a tuneup and took some more photos as requested by some bidders. The turbo seals are smoking and needs attention but the engine runs and sounds great and gearbox / clutch shifts very precise.One seat got torn (pictured) but the rest is original intact. No big deal but needs to be mentioned. As you can see from the photos, apart from the one rust spot I wrote about before, the rest of the body / under body are amazingly rust free, clean from accidents and original.
