Vehicle Detail

1987 Maserati Zagato Biturbo Spyder 2.5LOn Aug-30-15 at 09:00:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Presented here is an ultra rare, totally original Zagato bodied Maserati Biturbo Spyder injection. The injection version was introduced in 1986 and stayed in production till 1989, when a re-bodied Spyder replaced it. Only 297 were hand built at Zagato's studio for the Italian market with a 2.0 L V6 and a scarce 122 copies of this masterpiece with a 2.5L for the export market. The sensational design of this little car is very characteristic to Zagato. This maestro never designed "pretty" like Pininfarina and other Italian colleagues, rather famous for his elegantly powerful, masculine and even brutal lines. The Biturbo Spyder is his first design for Maserati since the famous '50 A6G. Zagato's design fits perfectly to the Biturbo's character .The 188 bhp twin turbo V6 is mounted in an even sorter and lighter frame than the coupe's (only a 2.4 metres - 7.9 ft wheelbase), resulting in even grater maneuverability, stiffness and brutal pull. The driving characteristics of this Zagato divides into two very different modes. Before the turbos kick in, it's a little Italian luxurious car- soft, comfortable and effortless to drive. Rev it till both turbos kick in and you get a real hooligan. The acceleration feels much more impressive than the already impressive 0-60 in 6 seconds figure. Very precise but nonetheless extreme overstear, expected from such a short and powerful RWD car, engages your attention constantly, making the luxurious leather interior invisible. When mastered, a Zagato Biturbo can be very fast and precise car. As '60 Maserati cars were affordable in the '90, and '70 in the '00, I'm sure such a rare '80 Maserati Zagato would be a a very solid investment in 2015. The car presented here is a rare original and low mileage time bubble. It was a great driver before being stored in my collection in a dry, climate controlled storage for quite a few years. It still wears the original Zagato paint and interior and has surprisingly little rust. As can be seen in the photos - there is some on the front clip and in the lower right side of the windshield frame. the rest is solid and rust free. Most of the original paint even still manages to shine. Interior is intact ans quite spotless as can be expected from such a low mileage car. The top needs replacement.Engine has great compression, gearbox shifts great and the turbos do not smoke. It starts, runs and drives- but given the long storage, i'm sure it's not perfect. It is being sold as is but you are welcome to come and test it in person before bidding.
