1964 TRIUMPH HERALD 1200 CONVERTABLE I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2007 FROM A CALIFORNIA SELLER, WHO HAD DONE A FRAME UP RESTORATION IN 2003-2005. ALL OF THE RESTORATION PHOTOS AND INVOICES WILL BE INCLUDED, AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL OWNERS HANDBOOK. I DROVE THE CAR SPARINGLY OVER THE LAST 8 YEARS. THE CAR STARTS RIGHT UP AND DRIVES VERY NICELY. IT'S FUN TO DRIVE. HANDLES WELL. CONSIDERING IT'S AGE, THE CAR IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE ENGINE COULD USE A TUNE UP. THERE IS EVIDENCE OF OIL DRIPS ON THE PAVEMENT UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THE ODOMETER HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE PURCHASE, SO THE MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN. THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS. THERE IS A 1" TEAR IN THE TOP. ALL OF THE OTHER GAUGES WORK. ALL THE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WORK. WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK. TIRES ARE GOOD. THERE ARE SEVERAL HARDLY NOTICEABLE PAINT CHIPS. THE CORNER WINDOWS AND FRONT WINDOW RUBBER MOLDINGS ARE HARDENED AND CRACKED. THE BONNETS' RUBBER WHEEL WELL MOLDINGS ARE WORN. HORN WORKS. SPARE TIRE INCLUDED. TONNEAU COVER INCLUDED. I JUST RECENTLY HAD THE FRONT SEATS REDONE AND RESET THE CARPETS. I ALSO INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY. I HAD MY SPARE TRANSMISSION JUST RECENTLY INSTALLED. IT SHIFTS GREAT NOW. THE CAR LOOKS SHARP WITH NO DENTS. I AM INCLUDING A TOW PACKAGE, TRANSMISSION (FOR PARTS), GEAR BOX, AND OTHER MISC PARTS. PLEASE REFER TO DETAILED PHOTOS. I HAVE HAD FUN WITH THIS CAR OVER 8 YEARS, HOWEVER, THIS CAR NEEDS AN OWNER THAT CAN INVEST THE TIME TO MAINTAIN THIS LOVELY CLASSIC VEHICLE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT ME. ALSO, THE CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION WITH A PRIOR APPOINTMENT. Little history about the Triumph Herald line of cars. Manufacturer Leyland motors Production 1961–1967 Total production 43,299 Assembly Coventry, Warwickshire, England Body style 2-door convertible Engine 1,147 cc (70 cubic inch) OHV Inline 4 Transmission 4-speed manual Wheelbase 91 in (2,311 mm) Length 153 in (3,886 mm) Width 60 in (1,524 mm) Height 52 in (1,321 mm) Curb Weight 725 kg (1,600 lb) The Triumph Herald was a small two-door car introduced in 1959 by the Standard-Triumph Company of Coventry. Body design was by the Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti and the car was offered in saloon, convertible, coupé, van and estate models. Total Herald sales numbered well over 500,000 through final year of production in 1971. Heralds are still seen on British roads in the early 21st century. The choice of the Herald name suggests that the car was originally intended to be marketed as a Standard, as it fits the model-naming scheme of the time (Ensign, Pennant and Standard). But by 1959 it was felt that the Triumph name had more brand equity, and the Standard name was phased out in Britain after 1963. Total production for 6 years was 43.299 cars or 7,217 per year. Standard-Triumph experienced financial difficulties at the beginning of the 1960s and was taken over by Leyland Motors Ltd in 1961. This released new resources to develop the Herald and the car was re-launched with an 1147 cc engine as the 'Herald 1200'. Claimed maximum power of the Herald 1200 was 39 brake horsepower. The British Motor magazine tested a Herald in 1964 recording a top speed of 77 mph and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 23.6 seconds and a fuel consumption of 34.0 miles per gallon. The test car cost £702 ($1,965 US dollars) including taxes. Your bid is a LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT if you don't plan on buying this car please do not bid.
