No, this is not an MG, Triumph, Sunbeam Alpine, or VW Karmann Ghia. Remember the Datsun 240Z? This is the Z's granddaddy. Before the 240 Z, there was a Datsun 2000 Roadster. It was a tall windshield model with a more 'plasticized' dash and trim and a 2000 cc motor. The previous model was the 1600cc Roadster which had a shorter windshield and a flat, true sports car, fully instrumented dash. The shorter windshield models are generally more desirable because of the lower profile and more sporty dash. I've had this car for a few years and it has always been stored inside the barn. (Does that make it a 'barn find')? At age 66, I was recently diagnosed with severe disc disease and can no longer do restoration on my 'project'. Much has been done already though and the car is very near roadworthy. It needs a battery and I have had it running. The engine sounds great with no funny noises, smoking, etc. I replaced the carbs but they need to be synchronized and adjusted for smooth operation. I do have the air cleaner assembly along with a filter which are not pictured. I have replaced the belts and hoses and the car has four brand new Hankook tires with Zero miles on them. The tires are mounted on a set of early Nissan Z mag wheels. Also included are four original Datsun steel wheels which have been sandblasted and powder coated. All hubcap clips are intact and the wheels come with a set of original hubcaps if you want to go that route. The odometer reads 65000 miles and based on the overall condition of the car, I would guess that to be probably accurate. These little 1600 engines wee extremely well built and quite durable. They contributed to Datsun/Nissan's reputation for quality products. The steering wheel is in very good condition with one small gap. It could easily be repaired or overlaid with a sporty leather cover or simply used 'as is'. The suspension on the car appears to be solid. The grille has been bumped but I also have a spare grille that is very straight and quite useable. The Roadster also has an optional, removable hardtop in good condition. Both porthole windows on the top have been replaced and are in new condition. No cracking, crazing, separation, etc. Also included is the retractable soft top which appears solid and in good overall condition. The back windows usually are yellowed as all are, with age. I also have an optional trunk, luggage rack (uninstalled) that is included in this sale. The car has a radio installed which has been untested. The floors are rock solid and the body is fairly straight and mostly rust free. No terminal cancer or complete rust outs. Minimal body work is necessary.On Aug-24-15 at 05:05:17 PDT, seller added the following information: I have just done a more thorough inspection of the car for rust. Rockers, jack ports, wheel wells, trunk 'pockets', and fenders appear to be rust free with solid metal all around. I tapped all areas with a hammer and got a resounding 'clink' in all areas. No, 'clunk'. No 'thud'. No 'thumps'. No rot. This tends to indicate to me that the car has not been exposed to harsh elements and has probably spent most of it's life indoors. The ONLY exception to all this is a very small area on the back of the right rear fender. Please see the additional attached picture.
