Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a RARE, RESTORED, CLEAN TITLE, REGISTERED AE95 Toyota Corolla DX Alltrac Wagon with Automatic Overdrive Transmission and Air Conditioning. After rebuild, the engine has <2k mi. on it, and the tranny has about 4k mi. on it. This is the even rarer-than-usual 1989 version, which has “Toyota AllTrac” prominently featured on the front grille, whereas the later models replaced it with the generic Toyota Sombrero. This fuel-injected wagon has lived all its life in Reno and Los Angeles, which is why the body is so clean. I purchased this vehicle about 4 years ago in good condition, with only 183k mi on it. But I wanted more than just good, I wanted this vehicle to be purring along another 40 years from now, so the past 4 years have been a labor of love: restoring every area I could in that time. By no means do I expect to make back even a fraction of what I’ve spent in this process, but I do hope the new owner appreciates the time, effort, and $$$ that went into this car. I also hope it goes to a good home. Here’s what I’ve done or had done over the past 4 years, during which time it’s only been driven ~13k mi. (again, <2k on rebuilt engine, ~4k on rebuilt transmission): A. RESTORATION 1. Body/Exterior: - Painted the car in Vintage Toyota Red - Painted wheels in Vintage Toyota White with Black hubcaps (including authentic White Toyota lettering)- Resprayed F/R bumpers black - Added Factory Toyota “Alltrac” emblems to both sides of the vehicle- Weatherstripping wasn't in bad shape to begin with, but has been restored with silicone lube 2. Engine: The 4AFE was rebuilt WITH 1 YEAR WARRANTY (from time of rebuild- warranty expires 1/24/16) Full rebuild performed by M8 Automotive in Sun Valley, CA- full rebuild included top end to bottom end- machine shop, valve guides/seals, pistons/piston rings, bearings, the works! Cold compression #s and warranty available upon request (included with sale). Also... - New motor AND transmission mounts - Resealed oil pan / rear main - New power steering pump - New 02 sensor - New ignition coil - New coolant hoses - Replaced all vacuum lines - Tuneup: new thermostat, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and plug wires, distributor cap/rotor, PCV valve, reset timing 3. Transmission: - Rebuilt transmission (OEM rebuild kit, full rebuild, including clutches and steels plates, band, filter, front and rear bushings, seals, sealing rings, paper gaskets, o-rings) - Rebuilt torque converter 4. Transfer case: nothing wrong with the original, but sourced and installed a low mileage ~30k mi factory Toyota unit just to be safe 5. Exhaust: - New exhaust system from the flex-pipe back (including flex-pipe, exhaust pipe, muffler, new hangers, and kept stock resonator) installed at Fredy’s Muffler in El Segundo- New exhaust manifold 6. Suspension: - New front struts- New rear shocks and springs- New control arms- New ball joints- New tie rods - New front wheel bearings (both sides) 7. Drivetrain: - Rebuilt CV joints- New driveshaft u-joint 8. Cooling system: - New radiator- New water pump - New timing belt, idler pulleys, AC pulley)- Aftermarket tranny and power steering coolers, in addition to the factory oil cooler- Vehicle runs just below halfway mark on the factory temperature gauge no matter the temperature outside, the incline, load, or AC! You won't be able to make this car overheat if you try. 9. Brakes: - New brake master cylinder- New brake lines front/rear- New brake pads/rotors front/rear 10. Fuel system: - New fuel pump- New fuel pressure regulator- Rebuilt fuel injectors- New cold start injector 11. Charging system: - New alternator- New battery 12. Rubber: New tires 12. Other significant parts/work includes: - AC system gone through end to end and converted from R12 to R134a- blows ICE COLD! - New rear differential gasket - New blower motor resistor - New ignition cylinder - New radio antenna - New windshield - New wipers - Synthetic fluids in F/R diff, transfer case, tranny - Wheel alignment and balancing at Johnson Alignment in Torrance, CA - Repaired front DS and PS seat tears on outer sides of the seats at Amadeus Upholstery in Redondo Beach, CA (forgot to ask them to fix some smaller tears on back of driver's seat, cheap fix) - Sourced missing parts: rear seat fold down pegs, rear cargo covers, Factory Owner’s Manual (included with sale!) - Sourced Factory Toyota Repair Manuals (Engine and Electrical Manuals- included with sale!) B. VEHICLE ENHANCEMENTS 1. Curtis tow receiver installed (bolts to rear frame)- NEVER used for towing, only to hold a bike rack! 2. Added tranny cooler AND magnefine filter to transmission 3. Added power steering cooler AND magnefine filter to power steering 4. Added custom “Corolla Alltrac” dash mat 5. Added Factory Toyota “Alltrac” emblems to sides of vehicle 6. Added tach gauge to dash + 3-gauge cluster to center console (battery, coolant temp*, oil pressure*)- pictured 7. Replaced factory radio with Pioneer DEH-3200UB CD AM/FM stereo with USB interface for iPhone 8. Including heavy duty rubber floormats C. TO DO As you can see from the list above, the restoration has been pretty comprehensive. However, as with any 26 year old vehicle, there are some little things a “perfectionist” might want to look at, including: - The paint shop couldn’t completely restore the front and rear bumpers due to the flexible nature of the rubber used. If you want them perfect, replacement is your only option. - The paint shop also didn’t want to repaint the black metal trim around the windows; not a biggie, up to you to do so if you want it perfect - The switches that activate the interior lights when the doors are opened need to be replaced - There is a little overspray from the paint job - The “Corolla” and “Alltrac” tags behind the rear hatch glass are faded - Front seatbelts don’t retract very well (all of them do this at this age) so need to pull on them a few times to get them to retract - DS headlight aim is off (loose headlight assy?), but works fine - The dash lights (that come on when you turn headlights on) just recently went out. This previously had loose contact somewhere behind center bezel before, so should be easily fixable - 2-3 nicks/scratches in paint, with one of them looking like it took out some paint (pictured)- Rear hatch lock takes some jiggling of the key to lock/unlock- *On the aftermarket, 3-gauge cluster I added to the center console, I never got around to connecting the oil pressure gauge and the coolant temp gauge appears to underreport due to suboptimal sender location. Note this refers to the aftermarket gauges in the center console only; the factory gauges (including factory coolant gauge) work just fine! I should have or be able to find parts invoices to verify most of the new/rebuilt parts listed above. As you can clearly see from the pictures, this vehicle is not only in excellent shape for its age, it is likely the best condition Toyota Corolla Alltrac Wagon still on the road. I have tried to describe every aspect of this vehicle as accurately as possible, but I think it goes without saying that, with a vehicle this old, the onus is on you to come and see it for yourself and drive it, or to get it inspected before purchase. Please ask any questions you may have BEFORE purchase. No warranty will be provided beyond the aforementioned engine warranty from M8 Automotive. $1k deposit required upon purchase. Vehicle transport is the responsibility of the buyer.
