Vehicle Detail

This is a 1988 M5 that I will classify as a drivable project car. Odometer shows 285k miles, but gears are not turning, so true mileage is unknown. This M5 was originally delivered to Ohio, but spent most of its life in Virginia. It was in Florida for a time (I bought it from there) and then it came to live with me in Baltimore where it was a 4th car kept in climate control. I moved to New Orleans last year and I drove this M5 here, a 2 day 1100 mile trip without incident, however I would NOT recommend the new buyer to drive the car any long distance without evaluation. I had Patrick at Bimmer Rescue in VA go through this car in a 92 point inspection. Serious buyers can email me and I will be happy to send over a copy of his report. Here are the major pieces of work that I have had done. 1. New Timing chain tensioner 2. Front caliper rebuild 3. New front upper and lower control arms 4. New Tie Rod assembly and right idler arm 5. New Belts 6. New Brake fluid 7. New Slave Cylinder 8. New Fuel Filter In the short term this car should get new tires, shocks and struts, and rear brakes. In the heat of the summer in New Orleans, the temp will rise when the car is idling, but cools down right away when driving. I believe the auxiliary fan is in-op. Mechanically, some things that will need to be addressed are the subframe bushings, and rear suspension. Cosmetically, this car does not have its original front seats. They were replaced at some point with black Recaros and some (cheap) black carpet. Weather stripping should be redone - along with any other original rubber parts. The interior shows wear commensurate with the cars age and mileage. Body is straight and presents well overall. Has some minor dents/dings/scratches. Some minor rust around tail lights and rocker panels only one very small on inside of rear rocker panel. Paint shines well. Car looks great from 10 feet. Trunk is slightly bent somehow. You cannot open it all the way unless you want the headache of trying to get one of the hinges to unlock. I have been driving this M5 to work 1 or 2 days a week and it is a BLAST. Still, I have hit a lazy stage in my mid-life crisis and don't want to invest the time in her that she needs. I have done the best I can to describe this M5's condition. I suggest that serious buyers look at her in person. Also, if you email me your phone # I will be happy to call you to discuss. I don't need to sell. Reserve is set at a fair price. Good luck!On Jul-27-15 at 10:02:24 PDT, seller added the following information: This car is definitely no junker...I hope I didn't give that impression, I just don't want anyone who buys it to have any "bad surprises." Some people would probably use it as a daily driver as is, but I am a little more conservative. Still it wouldn't take much to get it to that level of dependability. I drove it to work today and it was perfect. It always starts right up and idles perfectly. I've been running Redline oil in it.
