Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my beloved Buccaneer Red 1973 Pontiac Trans Am, 455, 4 speed beauty. I really hate to see her go, but I’m running out of space and unfortunately don’t get to drive her much anymore. Look at the pictures, this car is stunning! The red paint absolutely pops and gets a lot of attention anywhere you go. This car is a real deal Trans Am, I have two sets of PHS documents (previous owner and mine). This car must be seen and driven in person to appreciate. This car is ready to be enjoyed right away and needs nothing. Drives Great! See Videos below. Body / Paint 100% rust free solid body. Always stored inside, under cover. This car has never even been wet in the 3 years I’ve owned it. Bare metal professionally done base coat clear coat paint. Razor straight, excellent body gaps. Doors open and close nicely, windows perfectly aligned. This car is driven and enjoyed so there are rock chips as expected. Worse areas are the plastic fender flares which would be an easy repaint should you chose. Decals look very good, few very small imperfections in the tip of the bird wing and on the fender “Trans Am” I’d give the exterior of this car an 8.5/10. With a bit of professional touch up work it could easily be 9.5/10. Recently detailed by my amateur hands with just show and shine wax spray and it still looks like you could almost dive into the paint. Pictures speak louder than words! Engine / Drivetrain Correct 1973 Pontiac 455 250hp 4bbl. engine but likely not the engine this car was born with. The previous owner believed it to be a factory replacement engine. The engine codes support this. See data sheet in pictures. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner with a nice mid range cam and higher compression heads (original heads included with sale). Pulls very strong in the 2500-4200 rpm range. I’d estimate the horsepower to be somewhere in the 325-350hp range. Speed and power is relative, I'm use to fast cars (I have a high 11 second BMW M4). With that in mind, I'd say this Trans Am runs very strong, but not in the "scary" category, certainly pulls harder than a stock '73 T/A for sure though. Rochester 4bbl. carb, recent tune up. Runs great. More modern HEI ignition, no points to worry about. Car starts up everytime. MSD rev limiter with multiple cutoffs to choose from. That being said, as with most Pontiac engines it starts to run out of breath over 5000 rpm. I almost never run the rpms that high, in the videos below even when I’m really getting on it I’m shifting at about 4500-4700 rpm. Stock manifolds, true dual exhaust. Sounds great! See video Original 4 speed Muncie, Close ratio, Rebuilt about a year ago. Shifts great! See videos Original Rear End 3:42 gears Brand spanking new BFG Radials installed. Car drives straight and handles very well for a car of this era. Interior Black vinyl interior looks great. Flawless dash, no cracks. Large aftermarket tach installed by previous owner, 2 original tachs included. Presume the one in the dash is inoperable Was originally an A/C car, but no A/C is installed. When I bought the car 3 years ago, I thought I would need to install a unit to enjoy the car. Surprisingly even in hot Arizona, I didn’t really need A/C as much as I thought I would. I’ve cruised comfortably in temperatures into the mid 90’s. If you’re sitting in traffic (which I don’t) it would surely get uncomfortable though. Kenwood stereo with Pioneer 6 x 9 speakers and small twitter in front dash for enjoying tunes. Good sound, not much base, old school. Viper alarm system. Feel comfortable leaving car in parking lot if you go out to dinner, etc. Lower door panels have some scrapes and nicks. I’d recommend replacing them There is a 1 inch cut in the rear passenger seat. I have taped over with electrical tap and is almost unnoticeable I’d give the interior about a 7.5/10 Advisements The engine has a slow leak in the rear main seal which is very common of older engines. It will drip oil a bit in your garage, about a tablespoon per week I’d guess. I’ve added only about 1 quart per year of oil to this Trans Am. My BMW race car consumes 1 quart per DAY on race weekends. I have a new rear main seal that will go with the car should you choose to replace it. With the higher compression heads, the engine prefers higher octane gas. Being a track junkie, I have ready access to race fuel, so its no problem for me to put 100 octane in it (plus I like the smell of race gas :) ). Should you chose to run 91 octane gas, you’ll probably want to the retard the timing otherwise you'll probably get some knocking. There is a small crack in the windshield driver side near dash not visible while sitting in the car. I have a replacement windshield for the winning bidder, but its available for pick up only. They crack very easily during shipping, this was the third one my vendor sent and I finally got one that wasn't cracked. These early 70's Trans Ams are getting extremely hard to find in this condition. If you’re looking for a absolutely stunning Buccaneer Red 1973 Trans Am that you can get in and enjoy driving today, this is the car for you. My reserve price is set at a fair. You cannot go wrong, you could go several directions with this car: 1) Keep it as it is, enjoy, maintain, go to Good Guys cruise nights etc. 2) Take it up to the next level, make it a show car if that’s your thing. 3) Resto - mod, modernize the suspension, brakes, etc. (I have the 17x9” honeycomb wheels from Year One. If you think you might go this route they could be negotiated). Very serious inquiries only call Tom 480-688-0843 in Arizona (note time difference in you’re east coast) Car is available for inspection by appointment. Car is offered for sale locally, I reserve the right to end the auction early. Clean title in hand. I can work with JJBest or any of the classic car finance companies. If you want the car, bid to win, but DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO BUY AND HAVE YOUR FINANCES IN ORDER! Bidders with less than 10 feedback contact me first before bidding. I did a quick inventory of extras parts that go with the car: extra gauges (tach, oil/temp x2, fuel), brake booster, chrome valve covers, valve springs, windshield (pick up only), car cover, original heads for the 1973 Pontiac 455 engine (1H 4X A233).
