Vehicle Detail
I'm selling my 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible. It has a clean title in my name, currently registered and insured in my name here in California. The power convertible top works by the switch on the dash. The top goes up and down but the passenger side power cylinder leaks a little from the o-ring. The power top motor was cleaned and tested and works great and sounds great. Included is a brand new - still in box - white convertible top. Included is new tension rods, clips and seals for the installation of the top. The engine feels powerful, the transmission shifts smoothly. It steers ok - but could use new tie rod ends and radius arm bushings. It has new front and rear brakes and hardware, and new brake master cylinder. However, the brake booster does have a vacuum leak - so I have temporarily plugged it. As a result, the brakes work consistently but require a little more effort that desirable. A new brake booster can be purchased at any auto parts store for around $120. This car has a lot of potential - its a rust free survivor. The only possible rust I have seen on this car is the passenger front floor pans - but the occasional pin holes are so minor - I think it would be crazy to replace them. I replaced the front bench seat with a brand new one - no tears. The rear seat needs to be re-covered - but can be used as is. The gages work including the gas gage. The gas tank was professionally cleaned and flushed. The chrome rocker moldings are in good shape, and included, but not installed so the body rockers could be clearly shown. The car has a very straight body - it has had some minor body work through the years. The passenger side is near perfect and shouldn't require much time at all to be ready for paint. The driver side door revealed various layers of bondo, and the rear quarter area between the driver door and rear wheel well had some minor bondo and body work. Also, the rear trunk lid - left side had a small dent that I had repaired by a local body shop. The doors and trunk open and close just the way they should. All glass is in very good shape, no cracks, and all glass raises and lowers nicely. The car needs a complete set of ignition, door and trunk locks. The ignition switch on the car works in the accessory, off, and ON positions only. So, there is a separate pushbutton under the dash that operates the starter. This was done by the previous owner - and actually works well. Its probably also a safety deterrant against theft. On Jul-21-15 at 11:46:09 PDT, seller added the following information: I got asked a question but ebay didn't provide me the option to post it here for everyone to see. Here it is: 7/21/2015 question: on a hot day i think i would be more concerned about overheating. Do you think the cooling system and drivetrain is up to the trip? Can you describe to me what the car is doing that makes you say it needs alignment and balancing prior to a long drive on a hot day. Also, I would need for you to store it until 8/6 or 7. Is this ok? answer: You ask a good question. I just haven't really road tested it yet to trust it at high speeds plus traffic. It seems to do fine at speeds below 35 mph. I can't put my finger on it - just a feeling on how it drives. It either needs a tune-up, an alignment, wheel balancing, transmission regulator - I'm honestly not sure - I'm just too busy to have it properly diagnosed. But I'm very confident its nothing serious. The car had been sitting for a bunch of years and I have only had it since December. I do need the space - but I could hold it until August 7th at the latest. Its a rust free convertible with a hell of a lot of potential. anything you do to it is sure to increase the value. I want the new owner to be happy with the purchase, and I want to continue to have 100% positive feedback. This is truly an excellent opportunity to own and restore a classic fairlane convertible. I have spent over $4000 on this car - including purchase from the 2nd owner, registration, and getting road worthy. It had been sitting for over 10 years. Basically, I did the hard part. The new owner can enjoy the car as it is and then decide how to restore it - what color to paint it, and what tires/wheels to install. This car has so much potential - I hope the new owner sends me photos after its painted and cleaned up - it will be awesome I'm sure.
