Vehicle Detail
1956 Chevy Bel Air 2dr Hardtop Los Angeles built Arizona car!!! This is a real Bel Air! And it is the body style that collectors are looking for - the hard to find and very desirable 2dr hardtop (non-post). This was a lifelong Arizona car until I acquired it this past March; it had been stored in a pole building in southern Arizona for the past twenty years. The body and the undercarriage of this car are both incredibly nice and original!! The odometer is showing just over 88,000 miles. The engine is a later Chevy 283 with a 2bbl carburetor. Originally this was a column shift manual transmission car, it is now a 3-speed manual on the floor. Once I got the car home I did a thorough engine tune-up on it and rebuilt the carburetor...afterward a turn of the key fired the car right up! The engine starts quickly every time and it immediately settles into a nice smooth idle. The car runs and drives very nice. At some point in the past the car was repainted; the paint is old and by no means perfect, but it shines up nicely. The chrome and stainless trim is all in very nice condition. This car also has under dash air conditioning. This is a 59 year old car that has been sitting in Arizona storage for the past 20 years. As such, a few minor things on the car could use attention: The driver's side door window does not go up and down as it should, as you turn the crank you have to coax the window up and down with your other hand. . .it appears that the window has come loose from the channel and the regulator probably needs replacing. The speedometer and the radio are not working, and the left turn signal does not cancel by itself. From what I can tell, the interior is mostly original…it’s obviously showing some wear, but it's certainly better than what you would expect from an original car this old. All in all, I think this 1956 Bel Air is as solid an unrestored tri-five (1955, 1956, 1957) Chevy as you will find...you can easily tell that this car has been kept in a dry climate. These days it is very difficult to find a mostly original tri-five Bel Air 2dr hardtop that hasn't deteriorated to the point of being a basket case, or one that hasn’t been all monkeyed up by someone else. This classic Chevy gives you options: Drive it and show it as it is, a neat mostly original survivor car...or enjoy it for awhile as it is, and then later go all out and restore it to showroom new. . .or use your vision and imagination and restomod this rock solid and very cool '56 Bel Air into the car of your dreams. I am a private seller, not a dealer. The car is in my possession along with a clear title in my name. The car is being sold "as is, where is". I highly encourage anyone seriously interested in buying the car to come and see the car in person; I’d be more than happy to make it available for your inspection. If you can't make it yourself, you are certainly welcome to have someone inspect the car on your behalf. You can also call anytime with questions regarding the car. 608-790-5196
