Vehicle Detail
Now here’s one you don’t see every day. There are lots of 32 Ford roadsters, as iconic a hotrod as has ever been. But when was the last time you saw a 32 highboy roadster powered by a powerful Chevy 348 engine and backed with a Tremec built T-5 5 speed transmission. No 350/350 here. Its titled as a 32 Ford Roadster, not as a kit or home-built. I’m retired 2 years now and, as life would have it, things change. As a result, I’ve decided to thin the herd a little. So, up for auction, an absolute, no reserve, somebody else will own this car in a few days auction, is this beautiful and unique 32 Ford highboy roadster. Let me tell you a little about what went into making this car the unique hot rod it is. Start with the Dave Cory body. This body, fabricated by Dave Cory in New Port Richey, Florida is as nice as they come. This heavy fiberglas, Corvette Yellow gel coat body (that’s right it’s never been prepped or painted, but still sports its original Corvette Yellow gel coat in fantastic condition.) is solid as a rock . No squeaking or creaking; no door or trunk rattles, just a solidly reinforced body that will provide many years of fun. The doors line up perfectly and open and close with a single finger. Firewall fiberglas with a one piece stainless steel overlay. The Duval windscreen from Speedway gives the car a sporty look that complements its aggressive stance and fantastic handling. There’s no top (although the brackets are already installed) but there is a matching, zip down the middle, tan tonneau cover. Both headlights and taillights are stainless steel and the headlights include built in amber running lights. The fuel tank is stainless (please note the small dent on the passenger side top of the tank). Interior is tan marine grade, faux leather vinyl with 2” rolls and pleats. Carpeting is high quality chocolate brown carpeting. Doors, kick panels, shifter boot, and complete trunk are upholstered to match. Complete floor mat in matching high end chocolate brown carpeting with tan piping is also included. Steering wheel is an original 39 Ford banjo wheel with 39 Ford column. Steering shafts and knuckles are stainless steel. All the gauges are Stewart Warner and all work as intended. The frame is a boxed, aftermarket, 32 ford reproduction frame. The front suspension is a Mustang II tubular A-arm setup with cross member, coilovers, and disc brakes. Non-power rack and pinion steering gives positive control. The rear suspension is a 4 bar, also with coilovers, and carrying a Ford 8” rear with 3:56 gears. Brakes are power with a frame mounted power master cylinder for that period correct look. All four corners sport American Racing mags, 14 inch on front and 15 inch on the rear and new Cooper Cobras all around. With the modern suspension and brakes this car handles more like a sports car than a hot rod, which is a good thing given the nearly 375 Ft-Lbs of torque supplied by the 348 engine. The engine is Chevrolet’s original “Big Block”, a 1959 Chevy 348 cubic inch W head V8. It has been completely rebuilt less than 2000 miles ago to stock specifications for easy maintenance and reliability, but sports 2 Edelbrock four barrels on an Offenhauser intake, finned aluminum valve covers, electronic ignition in the stock distributor, a 140 amp alternator, 2800 cfm electric fan on a copper and brass Walker 5 core radiator, and Sanderson Lakester headers (with caps) flowing through shortened 1950’s glasspacks. A 10” clutch transfers the power to the Tremec built T 5 5 speed overdrive transmission. With the high geared rear end and the overdrive transmission, you'll cruise at 70 mph with the engine barely purring. All wiring is Painless. Heavy duty starter and #2 cables to the trunk mounted battery get it started. For entertainment as you’re cruising down the highway, a Sony Explod stereo system is hidden under the dash (mounted to swivel down for manual access, but completely controlled by the small wireless remote unit). The system includes a 12 disc CD changer, 200 watt amplifier, tweeters, mids, and a 6” Bazooka bass unit mounted in the trunk (note the trunk photo; Bazooka, CD Changer, Amp and battery are all hidden behind the upholstered panel). Here’s a classic 32 highboy roadster with enough unique touches to make it really one of a kind. Drive it like it is or take it to the next level with body prep and paint. Either way, here’s an investment you can make for way less than the cost to build it from scratch. I didn’t build this car, but have known the builder for many years. This car, even though completed over 10 years ago, and driven regularly, has only 1967 miles on the odometer. It's always been here in sunny Florida, first in New Port Richey where it was built, then several years in Key West, Florida being shown regularly in the Southernmost Car Club shows, then to New Smyrna Beach where its routinely shown at the Second Saturday Car Shows. Only two adult (very adult) owners in the 10 years. It's built with quality components and well taken care of. I have a clear Florida title in my name. I am selling the car without reserve. The market will tell me what its worth. If you have any questions, please either ask through eBay or call me, Tom, at 305-619-3983. A deposit of $2,000 is due within 48 hours of auction close and the balance is due before pickup or within 7 days, whichever is shorter. I will be happy to continue to garage the car for up to 30 days at no charge. The car cannot be picked up or shipped before funds clear. I will be happy to work with the shipper of your choice. This car is for sale locally, so the auction can end early if I receive an offer I can't refuse. For other arrangements, please ask. The car is located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, just south of Daytona Beach. Thanks for looking!
