1997 Ford Explorer XLT Sport Utility 4-Door 4X4 For sale is a used 1997 Ford Explorer XLT Sport Utility 4-door 4X4 vehicle with the 4.0 Liter SOHC engine and 5 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. We bought the vehicle new from Tyson Ford in 1997. The vehicle was smoke free from new. Vehicle has sun roof and factory optional tow package, (rear axle ratio, trans cooler, etc.) and CD player. Vehicle has had regular Mobil 1 oil changes since new and transmission fluid Mercon V has been changed every 24000 miles since the vehicle was new. Rear axle gear lube changed several times with Mobil synthetic gear oil. Water pump, power steering pump, front calipers, front wheel bearings, ball joints, fuel pump, muffler, shocks, fuel filter and alternator have been replaced. Several brake lines have been replaced during the life. Vehicle has a crack across the windshield which actually passed NJ inspection. Recent battery has been installed. Tail gate has been replaced with one from an XL vehicle (also white and gray), but this vehicle is an XLT. Seat fabric is in exception shape for the age. Tires still at about 40 % life. Check engine light on but could be an O2 sensor. On Jun-02-15 at 18:12:53 PDT, seller added the following information: The vehicle drives, but I would not trust it on the highway.
