Vehicle Detail
This 1953 TD lived it's entire life in San Luis Obisbo, California until I purchased it in August, 2012. After attending Monterey Week & buying an E-type Jaguar at the auctions, my wife & I thought that it would be a nice ride in the new Jag down Rt. 1 along Big Sur & into the nice town of San Luis Obispo. That's where we took a break from driving to grab some ice cream & walk around. Low & behold, we tripped into a British auto repair shop that had some cars that they sold as well. In talking to the proprietor, he mentioned that he just got a nice original 53 in that morning that he had been servicing for the second owner since 1975, & it's out back, not cleaned up yet. It was obvious that the car had been well cared for & loved it's entire life. We found a letter in the glove box dated 1975 from the original owner where she writes that she & her husband just haven't been using her & she is too great to be neglected, so please love her & treat her tenderly. We were touched by her love for the car. I included a picture of the letter. The second owner bought her & always had her serviced at the garage where we found her, so we are the 3rd owners, & it only has 51755 miles from new. We've put about 2000 miles on the car in the 3 years that we have owned her where, under our ownership, it spent most of it's time at our winter home in Florida. I just had it shipped up to NJ in my effort to sell the car. The top & side curtains appear to be original, as does much of the paint with exception to rear fenders. She wears her patina like a badge of honor, showing her 63 year history. I was careful not to take that away from the car when I detailed her. No paint touch ups where scratches occurred or peeled paint on the rims. It is my opinion that it is beautiful just the way it is, sympathetically preserved, not restored. There is zero rust on this car. It runs like a Swiss watch. It can sit for a few months & just pull the starter & she fires right up. I had the clutch assy. replaced in late 2012, so to the best of my knowledge, the car doesn't need a thing mechanically. I would jump in & drive this car anywhere (slowly, of course ). Obviously, this car was always used as a weekend toy car & rarely, if ever, saw rain. As retirement age approaches, I have decided to reduce my vintage car & motorcycle collection, so I am making the TD available. If you live locally, I welcome inspection. Although it will be buyers responsibility to make shipping arrangements, I will assist in any reasonable way that I can. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have prior to bidding. I require deposit within 24 hours of auction end & payment in full within 7 days, although I can store the car for a reasonable time ( 30 days ) while shipping arrangements are made.
