Vehicle Detail
This fresh from the estate 1961 Volkswagen bus has passenger side cargo doors and is in original white paint under that patina of rust# It was sold to and used by a dry cleaning company so there's a clothes rack along the drivers wall that will need to be removed and their advertising can still be seen on the side###Pleasing Particular People, Pond's Dry Cleaning & Laundry#There's some rust along the cargo door as seen in the photos# The body is nice and straight and the bones of the driver's seat remains intact# The key is still in the ignition and the original gas tank key is still with the bus! The hinges on the driver's door have been braised but the door opens and closes well#We purchased this from the estate of the guy who owned the dealership that sold it new# He later took it in on a trade-in and kept if for himself, using it at his airport in Wichita Falls, Texas# His story is one that's worth reading about so I'll include a few links - it's worth the read but I will say in brief that Tom Danaher not only owned the VW Dealership in Wichita Falls as well as his own airport, he was the pilot who shot down the last Japanese bomber of WWII, a stunt pilot for films like Air America, Out of Africa & Empire of the Sun, he knew James Coburn, Clint Eastwood & Mel Gibson, he helped start a pirate radio station in London in the 1960s and was generally found to be the world's most interesting man#Ask any questions and let us know if you need more information# We require a non-refundable $500#00 deposit within 24 hours of the auction ending and full payment within 5 days# We would prefer that the balance not be paid via PayPal but with a wire transfer# We're located about 25 miles northwest of Fort Worth Texas for shipping purposes#Here's those links###http://www#texomashomepage#com/story/d/story/services-set-for-aviation-legend-tom-danaher-whose/15061/NSxZ0JzoQkO8-WG-77EBAAhttp://obits#dignitymemorial#com/dignity-memorial/obituary#aspx?n=Tom-Danaher&lc=4197&pid=172460513&mid=6119855http://airportjournals.com/tom-danaher-not-an-average-pilot/On May-22-15 at 08:49:16 PDT, seller added the following information: We're a little confused now. All the information we find tells us that this bus is a 1961 but evidence is pointing to it being a 1963...the louvers are cut in rather than out, the front turn signals are flat. But both the engine mount chassis plate and the body plate behind the passenger seat read as follows:15 3425UH2113 1084610We don't know anything about Volkswagens. This came with just a bill of sale and was represented as a 1963 when we bought it but all our research on the above numbers lead us to believe that it's a '61. Please do your research before bidding. We're happy to answer any questions and we're grateful for any help. David can be reached by phone at 817-233-5960 and we ask that you call between 8am & 7pm central time. On May-22-15 at 15:31:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, with the help of others we are certain that in fact this is a 1963 bus and not a 1961 as we first believed.
