1983 Chevrolet Silverado Pristine Original What best describes this truck to me is a question. Where will you ever find another one like it? It is in the condition one might expect to find a 2013 model year truck. Please read the entire description in order that you may know what you are getting in this truck. You will likely look long and hard to ever find an equivalent or better! This is a truck that has only 23,603 actual miles. I purchased it from the estate of S.L. Blackwell of Onalaska, Texas. He purchased it new at the age of 65 years old from Sam Houston Chevrolet in Cold Spring, Texas. Mr. Blackwell passed away at the age of 93 years in 2013. When last inspected in 2007 the truck only has 23,501 miles. The miles are not documented with paper. Texas does not record miles for vehicles over ten years old. The truck itself serves as the best document possible and has the entire provenance one might need. It still has the original belts, vacuum and radiator hoses, plugs, wires, brakes and shocks. It also still has the assembly line frame markings, brake drum and radiator cooling line tags and marks under the hood as well. The interior appears to have never really been dirty. It has never smoked in. It still has the new car smell. The bed floor still has the original paint and appears to have never been used, though there are a couple of small scuffs on the wheels wells. I had one of these new and know what a new one drives like. This truck drives like one that just came off the new car lot. Equipment -5.0 liter V8 Motor -3 speed automatic transmission -Air Conditioning (Works & retrofitted to 134-A by the original owner) -Clock (Works) -Am/FM Cassette Stereo (Works and still sounds like new) -Power Steering -Power Brakes -Tilt Steering Wheel -Cruise Control -Vinyl Seat -Dual Fuel Tanks -Rally Wheels -Heavy duty rear chrome bumper (Options list is present in photos)! Condition Motor Excellent! The original motor runs great with no leaks or adverse noises. Though the truck was rarely driven, it was maintained regularly. It starts up and runs great, though it really does need to be driven. Transmission Excellent! It shifts just as it should, in and through all gears. Suspension Excellent! All original, including shocks. Nice and tight. Brakes Excellent! Original Exhaust Excellent! The exhaust is original and only the muffler was recently replaced. It still has the catalytic converter also. The new muffler is the only piece of the exhaust that did not come from the factory with the truck. Tires Very Good! The tires are two and two. He only replaced them as the originals dry rotted. Paint The paint is overall excellent with only a few minor flaws. It is original with the exception of some spots that were touched up. It presents beautifully and shows the truck to be the original bad boy that it is. When the truck was new, Mr. Blackwell added patriotic, thin red white and blue stripes above the factory stripes and on the tail panel as well. I had them removed. If you look closely, you can still see some impressions, but it does not detract from the appearance in my opinion. No one who has seen the truck has even noticed it, but I want to be full disclosure since you are not seeing it in person. This is a gorgeous Silverado in person and one that people flock to. In the eBay picture viewer there is a spec at the front of the right front fender. It is a bug. Body Excellent! It has no rust, never has. It has never been in an accident. The body is beautiful. There is one small door ding at the back of the driver door a few inches under the lock. Frame & Underside Excellent! There is some surface rust from the years, but the assembly line marking are still present on the frame and under the hood. The tags are still on the rear brake drums. They’re also on the transmission lines under the hood and elsewhere. I think it even still has the original air cleaner and crank case filter. It’s such an original truck! Tires The front tires may be original, but cannot say for sure. The rears have been replaced. Over a 30 year period, I would think this was a necessary thing. The look good and have plenty of tread. Interior Excellent! The interior is beautiful. It has no wear on the carpet or seat. There is a sunglass holder that the gentleman mounted to the pristine dash pad. I left it in place. As mentioned before, it has not been smoked in and still has the new car smell inside. Bright Work Excellent! It is missing the CHEVROLET emblem on the tailgate time panel. This is because Mr. Blackwell pin striped the tail panel and truck with thin red white and blue stripes. He removed the emblem in favor of the patriotic stripes. I had them removed in favor of the original look. Glass Excellent! All glass is original and like new. Summary This is one of those trucks that can best be characterized with a question. Where are you going to find one? The truck looks almost new and drives like a new ’83 Chevrolet. It is the ultimate survivor ‘80’s Silverado. If there were a concourse show vintage Silverado’s, it would not take much for this truck to take first place. If you have wanted to own a pristine and original ‘80’s model square body Silverado, but find them hard to come by, here is your opportunity.
