Vehicle Detail

1959 VW Beetle Rag Top ONE OF A KIND AND A REAL EYE CATCHER This 1959 Beetle was featured on the cover of Hot VW's magazine in October 2002. The car was a nice original rust free driver before one of the previous owners disassembled the car and it underwent a long 3 year fecelift. First, the car was sent to the renowned Koch's in Southern California where the factory sliding sunroof was graft-in by the pros from a '61 beetle donor. Original semaphores were also added. The car is rust free, accident free and includes the original numbers matching 1192cc - 36hp engines that it was featured in the magazine with. One of the cool accessories of the engine built at Engine Dynamics in Minden, NV is the Porsche 356 12-Volt generator. The car sits on Flat 4 BRM wheels and brand new tires. Sunroof canvas is in excellent condition in dark blue color, original correct Goldie locking handle in the interior. The interior is beautiful and the color combination really sets it apart from other cars, the carpet is quality german square wave. Door panels are super clean, powder coated seat frames Light tan headliner in very good condition, no rips or tears. Restored stock speedometer. All the trim and chrome on the car is still very nice and it has a few period Empi emblems and badges. Original oval W decklid. Suspension is great and car drives awesome and straight. Front has stock beam with weld-in adjusters and back has Sway-A-Way torsion bars. Beetle stops on a dime. This car has many hard to find accessories all around, some are but not limited to: Very rare armrest between front seats, rubber bumper overriders, bumper guards, vintage ski rack with a pair of skies, rare an real "Australian" windshield visor (not a repro), real metal made rear window blinds, passenger optional side view mirror, fluted headlight lenses, rare Empi Coach steering wheel, original german Bambus package tray, HUF steering lock with OG keys, rare e-brake with rubber handle cover, fuel tap accessory handle, accessory sunvisors and rear view mirror cover, rare and super hard to find locking foldable shifter, NOS running boards, cast aluminum "D" (Deutschland) bumper sign and customized 1959 license plate frames (2), and one of the best is the original Robri front and rear gravel guards with foot scuff guards. California historical vehicle license plates. SO HERE ARE THE NEGATIVES: Unfortunately this beautiful car has started to have paint issues at some spots. Major damage is on the roof behind the rag top, some minor spots are in the rear quarter panel under the chrome trim and at the fender beadings. The top was resprayed to stop future damage but was not made by a professional. Most of the paint still looks nice and shiny. If you want a perfect look then an exterior respray is recommendable. Next, car has a whining noise that disappear when clutch is pressed down, by some mechanic advise this could be caused by a failed clutch pressing plate. Transmission shifts perfect with no gear pop outs at all. Car has not been registered since 2011 and I personally went to the DMV to check on registration fees and they are close to $700. California title is clean and free of liens. If you want to receive the car with the tags paid I can also do that but the fees to be paid by buyer.
