For those of you contemplating a Volkswagen Beetle restoration, this could be the Barn Find you have been looking for. This 1974 Super Beetle Sun Bug painted in harvest gold is perhaps the nicest ready to restore VW you will ever find. The car has been sitting in a friends barn in Dawsonville Georgia for over 10 years. After years of nagging we were finally able to get our hands on it. We brought it to Florida, drained the gas, put in a new Deka 12V battery and the car started right up and runs great. It was originally purchased in Alabama and still has the original owners manual to prove it. The entire body is solid. All doors windows and glass could be used in restoration.The doors, hood and trunk all fit well with no dents and only light surface rust. The running boards are solid. Floor panels mainly under the battery will need to be repaired or replaced. Both front and rear bumpers solid but rusty the molding strip going across and absorption ends are missing.. The center chrome strip for the hood is there but needs clips so we put it inside the car. One chrome strip above passenger side front bumper is missing. The sun-roof is solid but handle turns without rolling the roof so mechanism needs to be repaired. The door panels and front seats and dash are in relatively good shape for a forty-one year old car. The back of the rear seat is fine, but the bottom has come up missing over years and couldn't be found. It has a working but not original radio. Someone has added some speakers on the back window sill. All the original gages including wipers, speedometer and gas gage work. All lights work. The engine has been updated to a modified version which runs strong but we are unsure of the number of cc's. It includes some nice chrome accents to go with a two barrel intake manifold and weber carburetor. Heater system is all in place including duct work but we have not run it on the road long enough to make any heat. In the trunk is the original rare window washer that runs off the air of the spare tire The 4-speed transmission operates and shifts smooth. . One center cap is missing from the alloy wheels.
