This quad-cab truck is a 4WD heavy-duty 3/4-ton pickup with a 5.9-liter, 24-valve Cummins turbo diesel engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It was purchased new in September 2001 from Perkins Dodge in Colorado Springs, has had only one owner, and has been serviced exclusively by Perkins' service department. The truck's maintenance schedule has been strictly adhered to throughout the truck's lifetime. Current mileage is just over 229,000 (almost entirely highway miles); if you're familiar with Cummins engines, you know this truck isn't even halfway through its potential using life. The truck is fully outfitted for serious towing of heavy loads. It was used (approx 6-10 times per year) to pull a heavy-duty steel 4-horse gooseneck trailer, fully loaded with 4 horses, hay and equipment, and always performed perfectly, both on the flat and in mountainous regions. Even pulling such a heavy trailer, we were always able to maintain full "left lane" highway speeds, with plenty of power remaining to accelerate past slower traffic. Ordinary driving (basic highway commuting combined with in-town driving) has always yielded a predictable 18 mpg. Pulling a steel 4-horse gooseneck regionally has yielded approx 14 mpg. Longer road trips without a trailer have yielded 20-22 mpg. Center console lid occasionally sticks, but can always be opened. Plastic guard over engine fan has had a crack for years; service techs advise it's not an issue.
