Vehicle Detail

1995 BMW 840ci. E31 chassis code. 4.0 M60 8cylinder engine with 282hp. 4-speed automatic transmission. Clean title in hand. Vehicle has just over 144k miles. Runs and drives very well. Always garaged and in the winters I have regularly used a battery tender as recommended by the dealer. Here is a breakdown of the car. In the last 3 weeks, I have not had the opportunity to bring the car out of the garage given the snow but can take more photos upon request. Exterior – The paint is not original, but it looks very good. In August last year the vehicle had a complete paint restoration with a multi-stage clay and compound process. The paint is very smooth with no grit or contaminates. No dents in the vehicle and I believe only 2 very minor blemishes that are hardly visible. The headlight motors are currently disabled as 1 needs to be repaired. The headlights work fine and they can be put up and down manually with a screw driver. Rims were recently reconditioned and are very clean. No damage to exterior glass. Car does have a custom stainless exhaust that was installed by the previous owner. It’s a tad bit loud for my liking but does sound really nice. Some resonators/baffles could quiet it down. The previous owner pained the taillights/side markers blue to match the car. Removing this paint has been a lengthy process and the lights are in need of a final compound buff to complete the process. The trunk lid latch is broken (switch needs to be replaced I believe) but the trunk is functional as the locking mechanism has been removed. The front and rear BMW emblems are new. The rear end of the car has also been fitted with an M-Tech 850csi bumper. There are some scratches on the driver’s side side skirt near the door and looks like someone got into the car repeatedly with spurs or spiked heels. Again, occurring prior to me owning the car. Interior – The previous owner of the vehicle did some custom upholstery work to the car, and was not good at it. I have since replaced the door panels, headliner, rear deck, center console, dash console, rear arm rest, rear first aid kit cover, radio, and other misc trim pieces to restore the car. The seats in the car are a 2 toned gray/blue vinyl and look very decent with no rips or tears. The dash near the console was wrapped in blue vinyl and looks ok, but I have been seeking out a replacement one as I don’t care for it. The headrests have BMW 840ci embroidered into them. If you don’t fancy this , I have a set of silver/gray headrests as well and also a pair of very clean rear OEM silver/gray rear seats that can go with the car. I also have the correct grey rear arm rest to go with the car instead of the mismatched blue as pictured. The headliner is new and looks great. Some interior trims pieces need to be installed but I do have all these for the car. Only thing left needed is the trim for the sunroof panel. Floor mats are Bavarian Autosport ultimate plush mats and were purchased 5 weeks ago. Radio is a custom deck (one pictured will be removed and another will be put in). Has currently only has 2 speakers wired (fronts) and rears are not installed due to rear shelf altercations. I have speakers to include with sale for an install. Pixels on the OBC are burnt out and need the usual repair (lots of DIYs on this online). Heat works well and I believe the a/c does as well, however I cannot verify this now given the weather. I never tried this in the summer. The previous owner, in his attempts to put in a 600w sound system that I gutted out, did some alterations to the rear shelf and took all the carpeting panels out of the trunk. I have searched and scoured and I believe I have all of these now and they need to be refitted. I have not yet done this as recently the car got 2 new batteries and I needed access to the areas. Lastly, the rear windows need attention (common issue in these cars). One window will go down, but not up. The other sounds like it is off the track but is secure. Motor/Trans – In the last 6 weeks I have done the oil and filter, coolant flush, new expansion tank, new water pump (metal propeller), alternator (140 bosch), belts, and a lot of electrical work with relays and such. There are also 2 brand new Interstate 900CCA batteries in the trunk that were replaced in December 2014 that are under a 2 year warranty. The motor runs very well with no leaks that appear on the garage floor when running. The 4spd transmission shifts very smoothly with no issues. It kicks down as it should and does not slip or skip. Suspension – The front suspension is worn and does need some work. I believe the control arm bushings are in need of replacement and possibly sway bar links. The shocks look decent and there is no bounce when driving, but some stiffness when hitting small bumps. Electrical – When I purchased the car, it was in need of some electrical repair. I have replaced many modules, relays, and fuses in the car. So far, everything is in working order on the car with the exception of the cluster. This occasionally works perfect, and then sometimes only the speedometer works. I have a spare cluster for it and was told by my mechanic that it may be a bad relay or a bad solder in the car’s EKM module or cluster. Headlights can be quirky and cause the locks to malfunction on and off. This is infrequent and only started when my mechanic snipped the alarm wire to the horn under the hood (which makes sense as it creates an incomplete circuit when the headlights come on). I did bring the car to BMW of Norwood 4 weeks ago and had planned to have the cluster diagnosed but with the weather I did have to put the brakes on that. I know of many local specialists that could assist in pinpointing this issue. The traction control on the car is off and I have not yet diagnosed this given the cluster issues. It’s unclear if this is related. With the recent coolant flush, I did have the mechanic check all the heating units and these are good. Heats works very well in the car, blower operates fine. Overall, it’s a very rare and very clean car. It is registered on 8coupe.com and according to this it is the only orient blue metallic 840ci in the Northeast. I am a BMW CCA member and also a BMW e31 CCA chapter member and this car has seen some local shows, a few trips to my office, and a handful of sunny Sundays. Mostly it’s been under a cover in the garage. I welcome any questions about the car and encourage you to come see it before you bid. Please understand that if you would like to see the car, the roads must be mostly free of all snow and ice as I will not permit test drives during inclement weather. I am also not accepting vehicle trades. The price of the car does reflect that does need some minor work but overall it is a very clean example of one of BMW’s finest flagship series that was once acclaimed as the “Bavarian Ferrari”.
