Vehicle Detail

'68 Camaro Convertible. It incorporates the best parts from cars all over the world, along with plenty of hand-fabricated pieces which are unique to this car. Combine this with an incredible 540 hp GM ZZ502 big block, Tremec 5-speed transmission, and Curry 9-inch rear end, and you've got the ultimate pro-touring convertible on the planet. Everything about this car is first class and first rate, from the custom-built Art Morrison 2x4 rectangular-tubing frame, to the hand-fabricated dash which incorporates Auto Meter gauges and a 7-inch DVD screen. The list of trick features is literally too long to fit into this ad, but we'll hit all the important highlights in the words and pictures that follow. Look over all of the high resolution pictures carefully, and then bid to win this incredible, one-of-a-kind muscle car. Please take the time to view all of the high resolution pictures that illustrate the meticulously restored condition of this car. The builders took a GM Performance Parts ZZ502 aluminum-head crate engine and worked with Arizona Speed and Marine for its fuel injection system and dual-plenum high-rise manifold set-up. A unique air-induction system was designed and installed, as well as a set of Hooker Super Competition headers. A Tremec 3550 five-speed transmission was bolted on along with a Hays clutch and Lakewood bellhousing. All 540hp is transferred to a massive Curry 9-inch rear end with a 3.25:1 ring gear, Strange aluminum center section and Strange axles. The result of all this is a driveline with nearly 600 ft/lbs of torque, a smooth-as-butter transmission with overdrive, and top cruising speeds approaching 150 mph. From a performance perspective, this car does everything well. Again, only the best-of-the-best parts and design were used in this car. It starts with a specially built Art Morrison 2x4 rectangular and round-tubing chassis, utilizing solid, fundamental geometry. An adjustable Morrison Mustang II-style rack-and-pinion suspension is utilized up front, while a four-link rear suspension set-up holds the rear in place. All four corners feature Aldan coilover shocks, as well as a custom Wilwood 4-wheel-disc brake set-up. Bolted to the 2.5 inch Hooker headers is a custom-made 3-inch stainless steel exhaust system fitted with a set of polished stainless steel Borla mufflers. The pipes run through the frame rails and exit flush with the body panels via custom exhaust ports located on the lower rear quarters. The rubber meets the road via 17-inch Corvette ZR-1 chrome wheels, fitted with steamroller-sized 315/35/17 GoodYear Eagle GSCs out back, and matching 275mm skins up front. Combined with 4-wheel power disc brakes, the resultant handling is nothing short of Corvette-inspiring. Because everything was custom-designed to fit and work together, this Camaro isn't just a pretty picture--it will handle just about anything you can throw at it. Needless to say, this is not your father's Camaro. The exterior styling cues bring this classic design into the 21st century with clean lines, edgy flair, and exacting craftsmanship. We start with the car's newest feature--the front grille/bumper treatment. Originally conceived with a controversial quad-headlight and sheetmetal design (see the magazine articles inset), even the original builder, Jim Ring, admitted he never liked it. As a result, the front was expertly redesigned to include the classic Rally Sport grille and hidden headlights, along with a deeper recessed center grille opening between the driving lights. The new look reinforces classic Camaro heritage, while the additional blackout treatment really sets off the rest of the car. Moving back, the unique hood treatment is both functional and beautiful. With a high-rise manifold in use, as well as a sophisticated single-mount windshield wiper out of a Mercedes E-class, the GM cowl-induction hood needed some clearance help. The Rings spent over 150 hours incorporating a hood bubble from a Mitsubishi Eclipse into the design, as well as using hood hinges from a C-5 'Vette to allow the hood to open from the back as Corvettes do. Another 400 hours went into the fabrication and assembly of the cowl and the specially notched, flush-mounted windshield. The same high-quality craftsmanship that characterizes the exterior features of this car was applied to the interior as well. The hand-fabricated dash is a unique design, using an imaginative mix of space age shapes, bezels, and high quality Auto-Meter gauges angled for maximum visibility. Billet AC vents and Vintage Air HVAC controls complement the billet Budnik leather-trimmed tilt wheel. On the passenger side sits a 7-inch DVD screen which is inset for easier visibility, and is surrounded by stainless trim. Vintage '65 Mustang switches and a unique arching defroster vent provide the final touches.Flowing off the dash are custom-designed door panels, featuring contoured steel finished in body color, elephant gray leather upholstery with embroidered crossflags, and finished with high quality MB Quart component speakers. The matching front and rear consoles are also hand-fabricated from 18-gauge steel, and feature modular styling, with the Sony head unit in front, and the shifter unit set within a deep depression to ensure unfettered shifts. Controls for the power windows, locks, trunk, and driving lights are logically situated, and a slick leather armrest and C5 E-brake handle round out the details. The rear console also doubles as the housing for the stereo's 12-inch subwoofer, and is topped off with matching black graphics. The level of detail is almost unending!
