The 1986 944 is a great year for the car because for the first time a number of upgraded suspension and steering components developed for the turbo 944 made it onto this model resulting in what Car and Driver magazine said was the greatest sports car value of that year. What really makes this car stand out is great throttle response and the fact that its steering feels sharper on center. In order to maintain the great handling that really makes this car worth owning attention has been made to insure the suspension and brakes are up to the task. The car has 4 performance shock absorbers with less than 1,000 miles on them and brake pads with less than 500. The power steering has also been put into non power mode for even better handling on the canyon roads above LA, although if you spend a lot of time in the city, you can easily switch back to power steering. Smog is no problem on this engine. She just passed less than 40 days ago. This 944 is approaching 30 years, but has so much good time left in her. Still, inspections are a good thing.
