Vehicle Detail
I will try and tell the story of the Studebaker as detailed as I can. It's a 1953 Studebaker 2 door hardtop with the champion flathead 6 with 3 speed overdrive. I bought it from an elderly gentlemen in Wisconsin. He had owned the Stude over 10 years. He had bought it from the estate of a friend of his that had restored the car. He said that the Stude was restored over 30 years ago. Since that time it has only been driven a little over 2000 miles. Started out as a very solid body. Engine was rebuilt. Complete interior was pulled out to redo including the dash. Brake system was gone through. New tires. Repainted burgandy with white top that you see in pictures. The guy I got it from drove the Stude home about 5 miles 10 years ago and since then has never left his farm. He said about 3 to 4 times a summer he would drive it out of the garage and let it warm up and wash it. Then put the Stude back in the garage. When I got the Stude home I cleaned the carb put some new gas in the tank and let it warm up to check everything over. Engine sounds real strong and no noises. I took it down the road 5 miles and back and ran out real good. I noticed the overdrive is not working. When you pull the handle out it will free wheel when you let off the throttle but the solenoid isn't working. Tires are weathered. There is a chip in the paint behind the hood on the cowl (hood rubs when opened, have picture). Very front edge of hood has 2 very small bubbles in paint (inside edge of hood very solid). Right behind the doors on top edge of rear fenders there is some very small bubbles in paint (have picture of one side). Rocker on passenger side has very small bubbles in paint (have picture) can't see them unless you get right down on ground and look. I have driven the car about 40 miles over the summer. It starts good. The battery is old so it will need to be replaced soon. Gauges work including the gas gauge. None of the lights are working except the brake lights. I asked the last owner about that and he said they didn't work when he got the car. I just had a hip replaced last year so I wasn't able to check that out. IF none of the lights work that would mean the main wire to the dash is unhooked some place. That might be why the overdrive doesn't work either. Interior is very nice on the Stude. Doors have had new rubber mouldings installed. They shut a little hard. A lot of the chrome has been redone. Backup lights are not original to the car. Exhaust is in good condition. Floors of the Stude are very solid (have pictures). All windows in the car are good. Burgandy paint on the car has a few scuffs in it from age. I talked to a body shop that said they could computer match the paint to touch up the few problems it has. It's a good driver quality paint. White paint on the roof is very nice. We have a clear Minnesota title in our name. I have around 60 pictures of the Stude I can send to interested parties. This is a very solid car that is hard to find. With a little effort you could drive this one every day. I can help load the Stude. It can sit in my building until you can come pick it up. If you have a shipper pick the car up please have them notify me in advance as sometimes I'm gone for a couple days. I think I've described the Stude the best I can. This is not a show car it's just a very solid old Stude you could be proud to own. Please feel free to ask questions. We want you happy if you end up high bidder. Thanks for looking at my auction!!! Stude purists straighten me out on that (-: One guy wrote and said maybe the fuse is bad in the overdrive. Tires look new in pictures but are over 30 years old and have cracks in tread. Brakes were rebuilt over 30 years ago. They stop the car but should be checked for safety before depending on them. Car should have a tune-up, new plugs, points, oil change. I'd change anti freeze also (looks clean but old). Had questions about if Stude could be driven home. I think it needs to be trailered. Trunk lid has a little bow in it on drivers side (can see in picture). I looked at it and looks like the new weather strip has it pushed up a little. No damage. I have a few spare parts that came with the car and manuals. High bidder gets that. I'll put them in the trunk. I think that should cover the most frequently ask questions. If your bidding and haven't got all the pictures to look at, your sure welcome to email me for them.On Jan-31-15 at 09:52:28 PST, seller added the following information: When your looking at the photos of the outside of the car The color changes in the paint is from the flash of the camera going off. All burgundy is the same color. As for the retracted bids. This is people playing games trying to find out reserve price on the first retraction and second retraction is trying to play around and get high bid then don't have the monies to honor the bid. This is not a game. First off if you don't have the funds to pay don't bid. If you have to get permission from anyone don't bid. People are confused that I have hot rod street rod in my listing. That's just to draw the hot rod people in to look at my ad. Realistically the car could sell to someone looking to hot rod it. The drivetrain is original to the car right now.
