Vehicle Detail
You're looking at an '02 Passat Wagon with the 1.8 liter Turbocharged 4cylinder engine & automatic transmission (with optional manual sport mode). The car runs & drives well. It does have an exhaust rattle & puff of smoke just upon cold startup, but goes away in 2 seconds & does not burn oil after that. The car gets great gas mileage being a 4 cylinder, but is also very peppy being a turbocharged engine. There is high mileage on the body (283k), but just had a different engine installed 2 years ago with only 118k miles on it. Since then, we have also installed a new oil-pump & pickup screen deep inside the engine, and replaced the coil-packs & spark plugs. We've driven it approximately 20k miles since this work was all done, and the car's performed excellently for us although the timing-chain tensioner is now making some noise intermittently (a common issue from what I've read on the internet). I just recently took it on an 80 mile trip though, so it's road-worthy, & I would trust it to drive anywhere on a moment's notice. I'm a body man, and can easily spot if a previous repair has been done on a vehicle. This car exhibits zero evidence of ever having any panels re-painted or replaced (so it's never been wrecked). Also, being built in Germany (not Mexico like the Jetta model), the body is constructed of galvanized steel, so it doesn't have a SPOT of rust on it! I don't know of any other car manufacturers who that can be said for! A great feature in the rust-belt of the Midwest. The quality control on the Mexican Volkswagens isn't as strict as on the ones from Wolfsburg, Germany. It has heated leather seats in good shape, a sunroof/moonroof, fold down rear seats for excellent cargo capacity (it's almost like having a little pickup truck with a topper over the bed). The Monsoon stereo sounds very good. Excellent heat (A.C. needs a charge, as it was working great for the past couple years, but started getting weak this summer). The car has alloy wheels with so-so tires (about 25% tread remaining) brakes are good, but pedal pulses slightly on hard braking, so it could use the rotors turned, (the brake-pads still have lots of life left in them). All the glass is good, and the rear windows were professionally tinted, and really set the car apart from the other Passats out there. We have a lot of vehicles, and need to sell a few of them, so if you're looking for a quality-built, safe car that needs a few things, but is reliable and priced inexpensively, here is a very decent option for you. There's a lot of car here for the money. I can be reached afternoons & evenings 64l-5l2-5229 Test drives are welcome with a current & valid license. By bidding on or otherwise agreeing to buy this car, you acknowledge that it is being sold As Is with no warrany. Also, please note, the 1 picture shown of the car with 18 inch EOS wheels is just representative of the aesthetic potenial this vehicle has. I don't actually own a set of those rims, and the vehicle comes on its factory 15 inch alloy wheels, but it goes to show that wagons are cool, and don't have to be stoogy! Thanks for looking!
