Vehicle Detail
1977 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000, running "Winter" project. "CLEAR TITLE". This lucky Italian was born on 7/77 and is in fairly good shape for a 40 year old classic! Beautiful curvaceous Pininfarina lines and the best designed spider cockpit - one could look at those Speedo/RPM cowls all day! Acquired it in June 2014 and driven approximately 50 miles from Mill Valley to Bay Point. Driven around the block once and started every other week. Purchased as-is with issues as described below, with the intention to fix it. Owned several spiders in the past and as they say Always Looking For Another and couldn't resist it! But after some hard thinking the GTV6 stays - can only concentrate on one project, with lack of indoor parking the other reason for sale. Engine sounds strong, good oil pressure. There was some hesitation at 55-60 mph during the drive home. You will notice in the video that there is a 'miss' when approaching the 4000 RPM mark. My guess is the fuel pump and/or filter needs checking (noticed some fuel leaking when started for video on 11/8/14). The red "MSD" ignition unit is disconnected. Has typical 2nd gear synchro grind, but if you know Alfa's and give it a few seconds between shifts, works fine. Marks it's territory - typical Alfa oil leaks! Radiator has a leak and needs to be re-cored. Previous owner was using 'stop leak'. He sold it also due to lack of parking, and because he was working on his Datsun roadster! He replaced one control arm, spare in trunk was not needed per mechanic. The car drives straight and has a nostalgic 'Alfa spider' feel to it. It would benefit from Konis and a tighter suspension. It was very dirty when I got it! Cleaned up as much as I could. Interior seats need work, dash cover or fill cracks, dash lights not functioning. Handbrake cover is torn. window vent knobs missing. Locks inoperable. Driver's side door handle needs to be put on (the old one is in the glove box and I found another one on Ebay). I think I may also have located a passenger side vent grille. Floors are solid. Soft top is functional. The plastic has come apart and I placed some temporary tape as shown in photos. Trunk has some parts: new control arm and replacement hose (the part that goes from the air box to the exhaust header). Some old parts, tool kit cover, a couple of tools, spare wheel, no jack. The wheel well is rusted and will need to be repaired. Although it photographs well and looks good in videos, the paint is dull and has scratches. The body has dings on both sides, rust bubbling in typical spots. However, panels fit well and the 'nosepiece' has been protected. Reasonably priced with NO RESERVE to offset indicated issues - lots of potential!! Buy and fix the mechanical issues and drive as-is or go all out and get it ready for next summer. These Kammback series are appreciating fast, considering escalating Duetto values.
