Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE There are 32,500 joyous miles on this lovingly maintained cruiser. Anyone who's ridden the fabled R1200CLC agrees that the telelever front suspension and eerily stable riding position combine with the boxer's low center of gravity and can't-kill 1170cc engine to create what is certainly the best European cruiser ever (and maybe the best, period). I've been driving R-boxers forever, from a beloved 1970 R60/5 toaster to a quirky but impossibly durable tank-green 1978 R100/7 that I put about 20K miles on. This bike is my all-time favorite. A BMW with floorboards and a heel/toe shifter? An actual comfortable, stylish ride on top of that perfect engine and renowned handling? It's just sublime.I am the second owner and I treated this bike like the treasure it is. Dealer-serviced, adult-driven, always garaged, never a drop of gasoline less than 93 octane, lubed only with BMW motor oil. This bike has everything. And it all works perfectly. Heated grips (two settings). Heated seat (two settings). AM/FM/CD radio with presets, plus handlebar controls. Two convenience outlets. Tons of lights. Original toolkit. And storage? Please. The three hardshells are gigantic – perfect for travel. The fairing is classic BMW -- sufficient coverage, but not so much that you don't feel like you're getting any air on your face. And there's a Laminar Lip that makes for a whisper quiet long ride but is easily detached if you prefer a windier commute.I intentionally am listing this bike in Autumn even though I know bikes sell better in Spring because I want to draw attention to what a great cold-weather rider this guy is. First you've got the heated grips. I'm telling you, the two settings really make a difference. My commute is about 25 miles and when I start out at 6 am and it's really cold, I've got the seat and the grips on max heat. Then I warm up a bit, get the juices going, and I take it down to the lower setting. Exactly the opposite when I'm coming home. It makes a difference! There's ABS brakes, which I have come to believe should be standard safety equipment on every bike. Has gorgeous chrome engine guards with footrests and other "extra chrome" like the engine covers. I hope my photographs capture how bright and shiny all the chrome on this bike remains. Seems to have none of the pitting or flaking that are typical of BMW chrome, though of course there's blueing on the tailpipe after 32k miles. The bike had been maintained at the same BMW dealership where I bought it (Cross Country BMW in Metuchen, NJ). Everything works as intended. This bike is solid as hell; I'd ride it across country without hesitation; you could easily log a hundred thousand more miles. I'm a grown-up and ride like one, and this bike has been pampered and garaged its whole life. This bike is virtually flawless, with the exception of the scratches on the right side from when I stupidly fell over while walking it up my steep driveway. The scratches are on the right saddle bag and on the right side near the headlight. They're not that bad, but definitely noticeable. Zero impact on anything other than cosmetic. It is in exceptional shape for an 11-year-old. I'm throwing in a ton of extras here that BMW purists will appreciate. * Pair of Gerbings heated gloves (with BMW convenience attachment). I don't ride with even a trace of snow or ice, but I DO ride with really low temperatures. These guys will keep your mitts toasty down to about 20 degrees. * Garmin GPS. I don't have the clip for this because I always kept it in a tankbag that has a clear window. But I DO have the adapter that lets this guy run on power from the convenience outlet. Its battery is good for like 3 hours, so I never needed that, but it's there in case you ride longer than I do. * BMW trickle charger. This is much better than the generic ones because the output is much lower – keeps your battery fresher longer. And of course it has the convenience end so it plugs right into this bimmer. This is a must if you don't ride a lot in the winter. * Fun vintage key fob. * Ducati motorcycle boots. I loved these guys – obviously, only useful to buyers who are about 10-12 mens foot, but I'm including them because they have both exceptional warmth and foot feel, which matters on the heel-toe shifter. I set no reserve price. I believe in the efficiency of free markets and rely on eBay and its educated buyers to deliver the amount my item is "supposed" to fetch. One last caveat. I will not ship this bike. If you win, you gotta come to Northern New Jersey and take it away. So don't bid if you're not willing/able to do so. A $250 down payment is required within 48 hours of auction end. The remainder is due within a week of auction close, and I'll accept PayPal, certified check, or cash.
