Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1973 VW camper van which is part of an estate sale. The owner had plans to slowly restore this van and travel the country. He got about half way. I don't have paperwork for things done but have a sheet from the family that says "Facts: Less than 10,000 miles on new engine and radial tires, New CV axles on both sides, new brakes and calipers( but are a bit sticky from sitting), New dual carb conversion kit, and new extra cables for throttle, clutch, and heater." The van has been in storage for about 2 years with a battery tender hooked to it and it did start right up after a few pumps of the gas pedal. The interior is quite nice for a 1973. Amazingly there are no rips or tears in the canvas or screens. The cabinets are in good shape. It does need new trim around the edges of the interior which you can get in a roll and it just pushes in the groove. It has a table, ice box, and a sink. The rear seat folds down to a decent size bed and a small bed up top unfolds for a smaller person. There is a privacy curtain that snaps in place around the front windows and a rear screen panel that snaps in place in the rear so you can sleep with the rear hatch open on nice nights. And there is an awning which I did not take out to set up. All this stuff is in very good shape. You can see in the pictures the areas that the body would need repaired. The underside of the body(frame work) is solid with no rust through. With some body work and a paint job this would be a very nice camper van. I have driven the van a couple times for a total of about 10 miles and it goes down the road just fine. The owner spent nearly $4,000.oo having the engine done, axles, dual carb kit, and other things so it just needs someone to take it to the next step to be a nice van and a good investment. A nice one brings $10,000 - $15,000 these days. To make getting the title easier for the buyer I did take the court documents and the title from the deceased and paid the fees to get a good clear title in my name. The DMV told me I should have the title in about 30 days. I just got the new plates in the mail a few days ago. My kids are begging for me to keep it but it just wont fit our family of 5. This van is sold used, AS-IS with no warranty due to the age of the vehicle and the fact that it has been in storage for a couple years. I do require a $250 down payment through Paypal. The remaining can be paid when you pick it up. I can help with shipping if I can and can deliver within about 300 miles in the U.S. for about a $1.00 a mile. I will have another van up for bids in a day or two(not a camper). Good luck bidding and thanks for looking. On Oct-30-14 at 07:05:53 PDT, seller added the following information: The original book in the van says its a Campmobile 70 and it shows all the information about the camper part of the van. I also have a shop manual that goes with it. And I do have an offer on the van locally but I told him I'd like to wait and see if it bids higher than his offer. If I do get a better offer I do reserve the right to sell locally.
