Up for auction is a very original 1971 Jeepster Commando Hurst edition. The Hurst edition was a very limited edition that featured a Hurst dual gate "his and hers" floor shifter with a center console coupled to a GM Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission, a special fiberglass hood scoop with a built in tachometer and special red, white and blue exterior striping. Otherwise this Jeepster has the typical 225 "Dauntless" V/6 engine, power brakes, factory AM radio, hard top with a headliner and roof rack, original wheels and full wheel covers with Sears P225/75R15 mud and snow radial tires that have very good tread. The working odometer shows 83,692 miles. It starts easily and runs properly. The automatic transmission shifts properly and the Hurst dual gate shifter functions as it should. The four wheel drive works properly as well. The paint, stripes and interior is original and in nice presentable condition. There are no tears to the seats. There is a small amount of wear at the accelerator pedal on the floor mat. The body has never been patched or rust repaired. As you can see in the photos, the only actual rust through is at the lower portion of the tailgate. This Jeep was "Ziebart" rustproofed when it was new. This helped to preserve the body of this vehicle and it was purchased by us in Texas where rust is not as common as in the north east. Because it was "Ziebarted" when it was new, that process required drilling holes to inject rustproofing material into hidden body panels. Therefore these holes exist throughout the body. The Jeepster Commando Hurst edition is a very rare vehicle in itself. To find one this original and with very little rust and unmolested is unusual. We were a Chrysler Jeep dealer for many years and this Jeepster has been in storage as a part of a small collection that we have decided to sell.
