Vehicle Detail

This car is virtually unmolested. I do not think the engine has ever been removed and there is a high probability that the mileage is actual. It is hard for me to believe that the seat covers have not been replaced at some time but they do indeed look to be original or none the less original VW replacements if not original. The carpets and mats look to be original. The car sports an original Continental spare whitewall under the truck lid which is in amazing condition, as well as the jack and lug wrench (no tools). The car has never had a radio. It has the pop-out rear windows, original and the seat frames look never to have been painted and are in great shape. All systems function properly.except dome light turns on but not when you open the doors. The rubber door seals are original. It has a new battery. The body and pan VINs of course match and the engine has the period correct number which could be verified by writing the factory museum. The 1966, 1300 cc one year only timepiece 1 runs like a watch with that classic VW sound. Many say this is the best engine made. The tar board in front of the engine looks to be original and is in excellent shape. No smoke or odd noises other than an indication transmission mounts are failing during shifts. The transmission operates perfectly. All glass other than the windscreen is original. Much of the car retains its original paint which is thinning on the roof and rear deck lid. The hood and the left front fender have been repainted supposedly to repair rock ships and excessively thinning paint. The right fender's chips support his claim and there are no indications of any body damage other than condition note on rear fenders. See condition comments above. This car is a great example of originality. If I advertised this on Oldbug I would be asking a bunch more. I am running out of places to put this car and it deserves the best. I bought this vehicle from a real unique, hard to deal with person who looked to be a hoarder. The car was stored in the middle of a climate controlled garage surrounded by junk for a long time or it would not have survived its Washington State climate as it has. He would not provide me with any paperwork or records other than the title and was a grouch. When I pressed him for such he threatened not to sell me the car. I don't think he would was able to find them. His rural acreage was a mess with 'stuff' but this car had a space of cleanliness around it (about 3 feet) in all directions. Why am I selling . . .? I have several Volkswagen cars that are restored and space is limited. This one is in great original shape but it is time for it to be bought back to its original beauty and at my age I am just not up to it. I am much older than the car. I am tired and it deserves someone's time and attention. There is absolutely nothing that looks to me to be altered on this vehicle. To me it looks correct 1966 VW vintage in all aspects. The following items that deserve note and/or attention on this 48 year old bug: The drivers inside door handle does not return (spring is broken) therefore door will not lock with key.Transmission mounts may need to be replaced. There is a small amount of rust under the battery area shown in the pictures. I would not replace that portion of the pan but would have the area repaired by a professional, it is small. The car has the original undercoating so nothing is hidden. The rest of the underside is straight and rust free. The engine drips oil.Surface rust is appearing around all wear points, hinges, sharp metal edges of the doors, fenders and bumper attach point. These areas, at some time become, a reason to paint the car It is in both our interests to exchange as much information as possible. I look forward to talking to you about this opportunity and can be reached on 916-296-7459. I will be traveling during the course of the auction, leaving Oct, 11, I return on October 18th but will answer or return all calls during the course of the listing. Note the car will not be available for pickup until Oct 19 when I return. I am willing to work with you on timing but unfortunately I have to be away. I have added pictures of the car on my phone and may have one of a specific area if you so desire. My name is Carl, Thanks for looking I have tried to describe this car as best I can. It is a 48 year old car and it is SOLD AS IS AND WHERE IS. Call me with questions if you are serious. It is the buyer's responsibility to pick up the car.
