Vehicle Detail
1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe - No Reserve price I have owned this car since 1999, and I am the second owner. Just passed 102,000 miles, with a clear title (note to potential buyers: be wary of Ghia auctions with "low" "original" miles; the odometer resets back to 0 miles at 100,000). Since I have owned it, I have restored and upgraded the car as detailed below, all within the past 20,000 miles (restoration receipts and maintenance records included). It has been garage-kept and never in an accident all of the years I have owned it, has been extremely reliable (oil changed, screen cleaned, and valves adjusted every 3000 miles), and is driven on a regular basis but only in fair weather (avoiding rain, snow, and salty roads when possible). It does leak a little oil from a pushrod tube on the passenger side, but not really that much (enough to mark its spot; needing about a quart every 1000 miles). The exhaust could be tightened up some more (it "sneezes/farts" once in awhile when decelerating). While in the previous owner’s possession, the car was rear-ended and the body damaged. The rear clip of the car was replaced with the rear clip of a ’70 model, and the repair is unnoticeable except for the smaller (and more nicely-shaped) rear tail light lenses. With its performance upgrades (dual carbs, header/extractor exhaust, electronic ignition, short-shift kit, smaller sport steering wheel, upgraded shocks, etc.) it accelerates and handles much better than a stock vintage model, is easier to drive and requires less maintenance (no filing of points; dual carbs don't ice up and bog like a single carb setup), and has a very nice sounding modern stereo system as well. Heater system works well in the winter, with fresh air vents in the dash and rear for defrosting (no A/C for summer, but it's not too hot with the windows rolled down). Stock 1600cc dual port engine is very strong with plenty of low and midrange torque for sporty acceleration. I average mid 20's MPG city, 30 MPG highway with "spirited" driving and highway cruising at 75 MPH. The paint is Porsche Speed Yellow in excellent condition, and needless to say, it turns a lot of heads. This is a car that is ready to drive and be enjoyed, and not a rust bucket in need of several thousands of dollars for restoration. I have decided to now sell the Ghia as I have a newborn son and need to free up garage space for a larger vehicle. Included are extra parts including extra belts, spark plugs, light bulbs, an extra headlight, oil change kits, valve cover gaskets, a new rear engine seal, a 009 distributor (currently running stock DVDA distributor, but timed similar to a SVDA with the retard side open), heater tubes, carb sync tool, extra wiring, a car cover, touch up paint for chips, original owners manual, stereo manual, VW "Idiot's guide," wiring diagrams and carb sync instructions, and other assorted parts. Feel free to contact me with any questions, if you would like more pictures including some from the restoration, or a test drive. Local pickup/transfer: I'm willing to deliver within a 30 mile or so radius, but beyond that the buyer will need to make arrangements for pickup.
