Vehicle Detail

This 1966 Mustang Coupe is a FACTORY GT with some rare-ish and unusual options. First is the exterior color - Emberglo Metallic. That wasn't a popular color and is not seen often. Second is the AM/8 track "stereo". The option list also includes the deluxe ("pony") interior and the "seat belt warning" light. Rounding out the list is, of all things, the base transmission - a 3 speed top-loader manual. That's also not a typical choice for a GT.Not sure what the original buyer was thinking but see the door data codes below, that's what they ordered. The car is in very poor condition (rust) but is worth trying to save. It will take A LOT of time, money, sweat, etc to bring it back but will be worth it in the end I think. I didn't have the heart to part it out, but there's some good stuff still onboard, including the front disc brake system, the drivetrain, original cast iron 4V intake manifold, the AM/8 Track, etc etc. Note that all the VIN's and data plates are still intact. I hold a clear title in my name. Please look at the pics carefully and ask any questions before bidding! I've had this car for 25 years or so as a rainy-day project but it's too much for me to tackle with my current skill set and level of patience (or lack thereof). I drove it 70 miles home and at that point the engine ran smooth but was burning oil and the clutch was slipping. After sitting this long all the mechanicals will need to be gone through. The engine is currently locked and I don't want to force it. Soaking it in diesel fuel or Rislone or the like will probably free it up. Note that I removed the radio years ago (after someone stole the radiator and carburetor) and it's been stored inside for the past 20 years or so. The radio opening and extra holes in the dash were done by the factory, not Bubba, since the 8 Track is physically bigger and the tuning knobs are in a different location than the standard AM radio. The car does roll freely. It also proves this is a factory GT due to the "PIO" marking. That stands for "Performance Image Option" which was Ford's code for the GT package. Aside from that, the little details required for a GT are still in place:Holes through the radiator core support for fog lamp wiring are "punched"Unique front grill (mounts have holes for the wiring). The grill is in pieces though.Front disc brakes - calipers & rotors, master cylinder, and the all-important, impossible-to-find proportioning valve are still thereHCC-AX steering boxHeavy-duty front sway-barA-code VINRear seat pan support plates for the dual exhaust hangarsFactory-installed fog lamp switchAs you can see the car was "sanitized" at some point in the distant past and the exterior GT badging and fog lamps were removed. The only clue is the dual-exhaust rear valance (car has a cheap/rotted single exhaust now) The GoodIt's a factory GT !Mostly complete, including the front disc brakesGood side and rear glassFairly rare options include the AM / 8 track "stereo", deluxe interior, seat belt warning light, and Emberglo paintThe BadThe 289-4V engine is locked up (I believe this is the original engine but can't prove it)The carburetor and radiator are missingIgnition and door locks are missingThe interior is a messDriver's door doesn't latch (believe it's the little actuator spring in the latch assembly itself).Brake/clutch pedal support is badly wornSeat belts are from a 1970 Ford of some sortWindshield is brokenReplacement hood is a place-holder, all 4 bolts snapped off in the nuts, a lot of rusty flakes are coming out of the inside of the bracing (original hood is available if you want it but it's completely toast). The UglyRust, rust, rust, everywhere rust - highlights are:Right front frame rail and strut rod support are toastLeft shock tower (and possibly rail) has a large holeFloors are gone except for passenger rear pan and the rear seat panRear frame rails in the trunk area are badLeft/right trunk floors are badBoth quarters need full replacement (with extensions)Panel between rear window and trunk needs replacementInner and outer front cowl is badly rustedInner fender skins are actually in decent shape. The pan under the battery tray is rotted out however.Accident damageRadiator core supportFront-end sheet metal (stone guard, valance, left fender, left headlight bucket and door, bumper & brackets)Rear end - looks like it was hit hard in the side, some wrinkling of the trunk floor behind the rear seat (see circled areas in pic). Left trunk floor is badly wrinkled (what's left of it)Payment:$250 down payment required via PayPal within 3 daysPayPal prior to pickup or certified check/cashShipping:Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for shippingPickup needs to be at my location, I don't have the ability to pull this somewhere to meet a transporterMy property won't handle a large trailer-type transporter (18 wheeler).
