Vehicle Detail
Purchased this 1938 Packard Super 8 from the son of the actual owner who has passed and according to the son as a youth the Packard had been stored in their garage for as long as he can remember. It had been in there for more than 40 years but, doesn't really remember too much about the Packard other than it belonged to his Dad. This Packard is in extremely solid condition and would be a very good restoration project. Odometer shows 43,216 miles. The Packard starts right up and will idle with 40 psi of oil pressure. According to the amp gauge the generator is working as it should. I temporarily bypassed the fuel pump and installed a 6 volt electric fuel pump fed from a small gas can as I didn't want to take a chance on sucking up any garbage that may have accumulated in the fuel tank over the years. It did not come with any keys as they were lost years ago so I temporarily bypassed the ignition switch to start it. The Packard does need a clutch and the brakes will need a going through before it can be driven. The car is extremely solid, floors, sidemount wheel wells, running boards, rockers, trunk floor and lid are all solid. The frame is in excellent condition as well. Someone in the past sealed the roof insert with what looks to be roofing tar and by doing so it saved the wood in the roof as it is in excellent condition. The rest of the wood in the car isn't too bad at all. The left rear door has a little sag when opened as I can see the hinge screws are loose. All the glass is good except for the right rear quarter window glass which has a crack and the right rear door glass is broken and has been removed but is included with the car. The car still has it's original rear quarter window shades which are in working order and the large rear window shade which is also in working order. The front headlamps have been converted at some point to sealed beams, most likely was done back in the 40's. There are some parts that I see are missing like the driver side hood side vents, dome light, one sidemount outer tire band (front and rear covers are there), the moldings that are affixed to the edge of the running boards, right rear taillight bucket is missing (lens and chrome bezel, are in a box in the trunk and the stand is still attached to the body of the car), cigar lighter elements are missing and shifter knob. The Packard rolls very easy for a heavy car and all tires hold air. There is no title but a bill of sale will be provided to the new owner. I will require a $500 paypal deposit within 24 hours of auction close and full payment within seven days by one of the following methods only: cash, certified bank check, postal money order, or bank wire transfer. I will not accept a personal check. The car must be picked up within two weeks of auction close, if more time is needed please contact me. If you have any questions about this Packard I will do my best to answer them. Please only bid on this Packard if you have the immediate funds to purchase. Before you bid please ask whomever is in charge of your finances if it is ok to do so.On Sep-13-14 at 06:23:15 PDT, seller added the following information: This 1938 Packard is a model 1603 with body number 1103 five passenger four door touring sedan with the 127 inch wheel base.
